Spin the bottle, aah what a classic. It all begun when Bev declared they had to play spin the bottle for it to be a "real sleepover." The majority of the losers club agreed, although there may have been a few protests from Stan. Eddie was boiling red, not because he was hot but because of the aching fear of kissing Richie. Eddie had figured out he had a major crush on Richie in 7th grade...Eddie was now in 11th grade. Before Eddie knew it he was spinning the small coke can in the middle of the circle waiting for it to choose who he would kiss. The can made little tink tink tink noises while it spun—the little cap having been ripped off and placed inside the coke can. Suddenly the coke can stopped—it's destination being Richie, oh how Eddie was terrified, yet anxiously excited. As Richie stepped into the circle Eddie tensed, Richie obviously knowing Eddie so well—maybe better than himself walked up to Eddie and simply said "you don't have to if you're uncomfortable." It's not that Eddie didn't want to kiss Richie—he was just scared. "Oh come on Eddie don't be a chicken!" Ben commented, "I'm not a chicken, thank you very much" Eddie replied with a slight pout.
Beverly chimed in adding "bok bok bok" noises, but they didn't last long for Richie sent her a death glare—I mean if looks could kill Beverly would have been dead immediately. Eddie eventually built up the courage to look Richie in the eyes and smiled. Richie couldn't help but smile in return. Eddie then constructed the confidence to give Richie a peck on the cheek. He stood tall on his tiptoes and kissed a particular small freckle on the taller boys cheek, leaving the confident jokester speechless. The blush resting on Eddie's face was unmistakably noticeable. The short boy quickly walked away and sat back down in his original spot, leaving Richie in the middle of the circle astonished for a few more seconds. The game went on till about 1am, the teens gradually sinking into sleep. Bill and Stan slept in Bill's parents room, Ben, Beverly and Mike slept on the floor of Georgie's room, leaving Eddie and Richie alone in the living room having the choice to share a couch.
Of course they chose to share the couch—both boys wanting to be as close to each other as possible without the other knowing. The two of them laid on the couch—Eddie's forehead leaning against Richie's chest listening to the steady beat of his heart thump thump thump, their legs tangled together like noodles mixed together in a pot of spaghetti. It was silent, the only sound was the air being breathed between the two teens holding each other like there's no tomorrow. It was Richie who broke the silence. "Why'd you kiss me?" He asked "cause that's the game?" Eddie replied unsure of what Richie would say next. "No eds don't change the subject, I know you would have said no if you were uncomfortable—but you weren't...you were scared—why? Why were you scared?" Damn Richie for being so smart Eddie thought. He didn't know how to respond—so he just snuggled in closer to Richie, the taller boy rubbed the small of his back and kissed the top of his head. "Goodnight eds" he whispered, but Eddie didn't want goodnight—he wanted to tell Richie everything, so he did.
"No wait" Eddie said looking up at Richie. With every ounce of confidence he stored inside himself he placed a fast kiss against Richie's lips pulling away to seek for approval—but he didn't get a good look because before he knew it Richie's hand cupped Eddie's cheek and kissed him. It was slow, gentle, and unexperienced, but that didn't matter because it was right. The couple eventually pulled away with dreamy looks plastered on both of their faces. Richie broke the silence yet again. "Hmm I don't know why you were so scared to do that" he said, a smirk spread against his lips. Eddie giggled then said "...yeah" they both fell asleep that night in each other's arms savoring the warmth they shared—feeling safer than ever before.
