I let out an agonized scream as Minnie fell to her knees. Her once blonde hair was now as black as tar and her tanned skin had turned white as snow. Her eyes were hollow and it looked as if she was crying black tears. But she was crying no longer, for the silver arrow had pierced through her skull.
I quickly ran to her and grabbed her before she fully fell to the ground, holding her close to my body as I cried. Just a couple of hours ago she was fine, but now... she was infected and dead. She didn't deserve this, she was just a child, not even 15 yet. She didn't deserve to be turned into a mindless demon.
My arm was then grabbed and I was yanked away from my little sister's corpse. I tried to resist, but Payton was much stronger than me. I screamed for him to let me go, but he refused and just kept dragging me away. I stopped fighting, because there was no point to it. It wasn't until Minnie's lifeless body was out of sight, that I could finally look away.
"H-how could you..?" I managed to get out between sobs. Payton stayed silent. He just kept walking while pulling me along. I could barely keep up with his fast pace. I just wanted to curl up and cry, but he wouldn't let go.
"You murdered her!" I hissed out. He stopped dead in his tracks and looked down at me. His eyes were cold and dark. I shut my mouth and looked away. I knew it wasn't fair of me to say that, I was just angry and hurt.
The virus had taken over her and there was nothing that could have been done to save her. Payton showed her mercy by putting that arrow between her eyes. But despite knowing all of that, it still hurt so much.
Minnie was the reason we even managed to survive this long. If it weren't for her weird obsession with conspiracies and the supernatural, we wouldn't have survived the outbreak.
It's my fault she got infected. I wasn't paying enough attention to my surroundings, I didn't notice the demon sneaking up on me, at least not until it was too late and she had thrown herself between me and the demon. It bit her on the neck and all I could hear was a sickening crunch followed by a pained scream. She had fallen to the ground with the demon on top of her.
I had grabbed my silver dagger and stabbed its heart through its back. I knew that I was too late, that she was gonna turn, but I was desperate to save her anyway. After all, she was my little sister.
I cried as I thought back on what happened. Payton sighed and let go of my arm. He just kinda stood there for a moment, thinking. I don't think he knew what to do. I don't blame him, he did just shoot an arrow through my sister's head.
I felt him put his hand on my shoulder and squeeze it gently.
"I'm sorry, Milo..."
