The Return of Us

Chapter 1

It was a sunny day in New York, though the breeze of late autumn still flowed through one’s face. Junu put his hands on his trench coat’s pocket, turned his head left to right, waiting for certain someone. Suddenly, he heard his phone chimed, a text came.

“Hyung, where are you? I’m near the Washington Square Park now.”

Junu read the text and tapping his phone screen fast, made the replies. “I’m already there. I sit on the bench near the main fountain. Come here fast.”

“Hyung!” a man’s voice calling Junu from afar.

“Minguk-ah!” Junu waved his hands towards Minguk, who was running to him.

Kim Minguk, the former cast of TV Show “Dad, Where are You Going”, has become best friend of Jang Junu, also the former cast of “The Return of Superman”. They both shared the same feeling of popularity at such a young age, knowing about the two sides of popularity too early. When they both attend the same high school, despite the one year difference, they shared the strong bond like same-age friends. Minguk recently moved to New York for his job as a structure consultant in a huge architecture and construction company. Meeting up with each other became their first priorities since they rarely meet due to Junu’s moving to The States.

“Minyool will be tagging us along, is it okay? He wants to meet you since he’s in NYU now, not far from here.” Said Minguk after checking his phone. Minguk younger brother, Minyool, also the former cast of “Dad Where Are You Going”, was quite close with Junu also. Junu treated Minyool like his own younger brother. Minyool took Finance major in NYU, and was going through his second year there.

“It’s okay. I haven’t met him for a long time also.”

“How is Junseo? Where is he now?” Minguk asked. Sharing the same kind of brotherhood, Junseo also got close easily with Minguk and Minyul.

“He worked in an IT company in Chicago. He went to a lot of business trip, so it’s hard to point where he is now. he seems like always moving around freely.”

Junu and Minguk talked for a while, and then went to a pizzeria near NYU called Famous Ben’s Pizza. It’s Minyul who recommended it. A while after Junu and Minguk ordered their coffees, Minyul came.

“Junu Hyung!” Minyul came and immediately hugged Junu.

“Yah, my little dongsaeng is a college student now.” said Junu, patted Minyul’s shoulder. “Let’s eat. We’re hungry already.”

Time passed too fast when the three were together. They caught up everything each other missed when they weren’t there. They talked about pretty much everything, about family, job, college, interesting experience, and the unavoidable questions about girls.

“So, Minyul-ah, do you have any girlfriends yet?” Junu teased Minyul.

“Some girls chased me out, but I have no interest at all.” Said Minyool, shrugged his shoulder and bluffed.

“Don’t lie!” Minguk ruffled his brother’s hair. “You’ve been two years here. Don’t you grow interest in anyone? I heard you’re quite active in communities.”

“Well I joined NYU Korean student community though, and there are a lot of pretty girls there. I guess my taste is always back to Korean woman despite wherever I go.” Said Minyul while laughing. “Maybe I should introduce them to Junu Hyung as well. You still don’t have a girlfriend right? It’s been too long, Hyung.”

“I’m just not interested in relationship. Maybe I haven’t found anyone that fits me.” Junu replied lightly.

“When was your last relationship?” asked Minguk.
