I remembered like it happened yesterday, I've just arrived home from work, tired and stressed as ever. Things were bad at the office a lot of employees have been terminated without any prior warning. My guess is the company has run out of money and started firing employees to be more cost-efficient. A good business move indeed but the employees are the ones who are getting the short end of the stick.

The thought of me getting terminated was raging inside my head. So much so, I have forgotten that I have returned home; now standing in front of the elevator. I live in an old apartment complex, where its elevator still plays music and walls so thin that you hear the neighbors all the time. I was lucky enough to find an affordable place to live in, especially in the middle of the city. It's not the fanciest place in the world but its home, who needs a swimming pool when you have a neighbor that can cook meth.

I pushed the button; the elevator started to ascend down, the sound of machinery working in the background also accompanied along. It finally ascended down. It emitted a low grinding sound, as it tried to push the door open. Little by little the door opened at last like I said this apartment is old, the safety regulations are nonexistent.

I entered the elevator and immediately pushed the button, waiting for it to send me to my floor. I craved the sweet sensation of my bed, longing for the satisfaction of sleep. Yet, something was wrong amidst my internal fantasy, I hadn't noticed that the elevator didn't stop moving. I live on the 13th floor, it shouldn't take this long. My eyes turned to the monitor, and I couldn't fathom what I saw. The monitor can only show normal numbers but the numeral it was projecting is in roman, the numbers are 'DCLXVI' which translates to '666' the beast number.,"Is this some kind of sick joke," I muttered to myself.

My blood ran cold as my brain jolted all of my brain cells to life trying to find a way out. My first response was to press the open button and the emergency button but it was futile. My patience is at its limit, so I smashed all the buttons and nothing came out of it. I didn't even bother checking my phone, good reception wasn't a thing here.

After minutes of pressing and yelling for help, my motivation diminished; I sat down on the floor, lethargic from all the yelling. The only thing I could do is contemplate my next move but suddenly the light flickered and the damn elevator started descending with great force creating inertia causing my body to be flung up the elevator's ceiling. I screamed in fear knowing, I'm falling into my demise, it's been long time since I last prayed "Oh, god please help me, I know that I've committed countless sins but please I haven't apologised to my mother," I pleaded. The only sin I want to repent, just one.

The elevator stopped as I recited my prayer, tears and snort flowing down my face, I gagged; regurgitating my lunch onto the floor. The colour from my face has been drained by fear. I stood up, my vision is the equivalent to a kaleidoscope; I almost stepped on my lunch. As I was trying to find my bearings the door opened and a man had entered, causing me to tumble.
