She looked at my hand hesitantly. Finally, she reached for it. I shook her hand firmly.
"I'm Amaya."
"Well it's a pleasure to meet you, Amaya."
"You too, Dacre." I felt myself staring and looked away.
"So what brings you to sweet ol' Emmerdale?" She looked at me like I said something wrong.
"Nothing. I just needed to leave the city. Too much going on for my busy little mind." She wasn't saying everything that was on her mind.
"And....?" Her face darkened a bit.
"You sure do ask a lot of questions."
"You sure do dodge them." She rolled her eyes and pushed her hair out of her face. I noticed how pretty she was when she did that.
"So.. How old are you?" She asked.
"23. You?"
"21. Although I'm sure you already knew that." I chuckled and made a face, indicating that I did. She shook her head.
"Is everyone else in this town as "welcoming" as you?" I shook my head.
"I'd advise you to leave here as soon as possible. This is not the place you wanna be."
"You don't know that."
"I've been here my whole life. I do know that."
"Well I'm not going anywhere anytime soon so deal with it." I rolled my eyes.
"Well since you insist on staying, you can at least meet people your age. My friends are throwing a party tonight on Bonfire Drive at 10. You should come. It'll probably be nothing like those city parties but we still throw down."
"Stop talking about the city!" She snapped. I took a step back.
"Woah."
"Sorry. I-I should go. I need to get unpacked." She hopped in her truck and drove off.

Amaya

I felt bad. He was attempting to make friends and I yelled at him. But he kept talking about "the city". I hated it there. I just need a break from everything city like. Maybe I should go to that party and have fun. I don't need to unpack that bad. When I got back to my apartment, I laid on my mattress and called my dad.
"Hello?"
"Hi papa. I'm in Emmerdale."
"Lovely. I really hope it's better for you there than it is here."
"Yeah."
"I love you, Ladybug."
"Love you too."
"Well you get settled in and call me tomorrow."
"Okay. Bye."
"Bye." Hearing his voice reassured me that I would be fine. Something about Dacre was....I don't know. Unsettling. Maybe I'm paranoid. But he was such an attractive person. His personality could use some work but he seemed sweet. But something was off. Like he was trying to say something but he wouldn't. Again, maybe I'm just crazy.

Dacre

I closed up the shop and started walking towards my car when I saw a little blonde head pop up through the grass.
"Tana-wana is that you?" She stood up and ran towards me. Tana was 10 years old. She was Mrs. Dean's granddaughter. Her mom died in an accident and Mrs. Dean got custody of her and her siblings. Tana's like a little sister to me.
"Where have you been." I said, squatting down to here level.
"The fields."
"Mrs. Dean has been looking for you. She needs your help at home."
"I hate it here. There's no fun. I'm always taking care of Scarlett, Jasper, and Georgie."
"They need you. You're doing great." I pulled a bag of candy from my pocket and put it in her hand.
"Promise me you'll go home. It's too dark out here for a pretty girl like you to be running around."
"I promise." I stood up and watched her run through the field towards her house. When I got in the car, I took off my jacket and threw it in the backseat. I couldn't get Amaya out of ny head. I feel like she could read me. Like she knows. But there's no way. And there's definitely something off about her. Maybe I'm crazy though. It's this damn town.
