footsteps

The sound of heavy boots walking through the halls floated across the small space. He couldn't see where the person wearing the boots was, but he could most definitely tell they were close.

'Who could it be? Who could it be?' repeated in his brain over, and over, and over again. It wouldn't stop, no matter how much he tried. He had the feeling as if someone was looking right at him. Always looking, always watching.

Suddenly, the footsteps stopped, and the only sound left was the beating of his heart in his chest. The  air felt so still...so heavy. It was enough to make it stop, or so he wished. There was something behind him. Someone was behind him. He contemplated looking behind him, but only for a moment. A moment he would regret. A white hot searing pain ripped through his back.

He was too scared to scream, or to even yelp in pain. The only noise he could find in himself to release was whimpers and cries. Whatever his attacker had stabbed him with, was being torn out, and then shoved right back in with a sickening twist. It was beyond painful. It was almost disgusting how horrific the pain was.

His grunts and whimpers, along with the sound of blood squelching out of his wound echoed through the hall. The hallway was already dark enough as is, but the blood loss certainly not helping to help him see who had done the crime.

The footsteps began again, and a long stride was taken over his head. Before he could look at his attackers face, all went dark.
