Kiyoko Aizawa's pov
(Warning: mild manga spoilers about Shinsou)I opened up my hero case and looked at my updated uniform. After Hosu City I decided since it was already torn up it was time for an update.
————————
"Uh, hello?" I said. Shinsou was stretching on the track.
"Nice to see you too," he replied. He stretched out his arms a little more and held out his hand. I realized my comment wasn't too cool and shook his hand.
"Sorry about that, it just took me by surprise to see you here," I explained. I gestured to the mask and scarf on his neck. "New equipment huh, what's that thing do."
"You'll know by the end of the day," he sighed. Eraser finally made his way over.
"Alright, you've already acquainted yourselves. I'm sure you two already know each other from the sports festival. Kiyoko, Shinsou approached me and told me he'd like to transfer to the hero course. He asked me to train with him. Now that I've been training with him for a couple of weeks, I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone and have you two train together. You've both gotten used to fighting with me, you need a change of pace," Eraser explained. "But first, Kiyoko, I want you to try this." Eraser handed me a long piece of wood.
"It's a stick," I said.
"It's a staff," he corrected. I took the staff from him as he brought out his own. "Not the biggest fan of these things, but with your quirk, martial arts won't be enough to keep all villains at bay. Especially if there's a lot of them."
He instructed Shinsou to practice what they learned as he taught me how to use the staff. In all honesty I was really good at it, being my first time and all. I had fought with clubs and sticks before but this was powerful. After a short lesson he had Shinsou and I go head to head.
"Everything goes except for placeboing quirks," I looked at him and whined. "I want you both to use your quirks to the best of your extent. You're fine with placebo."
I muttered under my breath. The two of us got into a fighting stance. Shinsou put on his mask and grabbed his scarf. I got a grip on the staff.
"You ready?" Shinsou asked me.
'Oh please I'm not that stupid,' I told him. He shrugged.
'Worth a shot,' he replied. He threw the scarf at me with an obvious lack of grace. I leaped over it and threw a strike at his neck with the staff. He grabbed the staff and pulled it towards him, kicking me in the stomach.
Two can play at the game. I dropped the staff entirely and grabbed him by the scarf. I slammed my forehead into the bridge of his nose. I numbed his legs and picked the staff back up. I grabbed one of his wrists and stomped my foot into his back. I pushed the end of the staff onto a soft spot on his neck.
"Kiyoko," Eraser said.
"Yeah?" I asked. I felt my whole body shut down. I couldn't move anything. My lungs and eyes went on autopilot and I felt like my head was filled with white noise.
"Get off of me," Shinsou said. My body began to move on its own, letting Shinsou free. I could do nothing but watch as he got up and looked me in the eyes. "Okay, now get on the ground and let me pin you so I can win."
My body lowered itself to the ground and put one arm behind my back. Everything around me was hazy and surreal. I felt Shinsou gingerly pin me to the ground. Eraser said something I couldn't even make out. I was conscious but I couldn't tell you anything that was happening aside from Shinsou's voice. He got off on me and sighed. "Alright, you can get up now," he said.
