Chapter 35: Final Goodbyes

Chapter 35:
Final Goodbyes

"We are all here today, to say our final good byes to...A police officer, the chief of police, a citizen of our beloved city, a protector, a husband and a beloved father." Said a priest.

The priest continues his speech while everyone that was there closed their eyes.

"Our city has lost a valuable member and a beloved father..." The priest continued as the skies darken.

Everyones body temperature dropped, every time a tear slipped out. They shiver in their place with no emotion.

"Would anyone like to say a couple words?" Asked the priest as he placed the first rose on the coffin.

Jamison stood up with a slight quiver in his knees. He took off his hat and placed it on his heart as he placed his rose on the coffin.

Gwen fixed her eyes on the coffin while her mother whipped the tears away. Gwen couldn't help but replay the moment she saw that her father died. She felt the pain of the fragments piercing her fathers body.

"I...well first, my heart goes put to the family of our Captain. He was a great man in all honestly...He did not deserve to die, it was too soon for him to be stripped away from us...

Gwen tried her best to keep herself together. She looked up and saw all her friends and family there. Everyone was there, except Peter. She saw Flash with big watery eyes trying to hold back the tears. She saw MJ crying on Harrys shoulder. She saw Harry comforting MJ as he held his rose on his chest. She saw aunt May wiping away her tears.

...Captain Stacy was a close friend of mine. I remember back in the day when he was younger and i started moving up the business latter. We helped each other, I helped him with cases and he helped me with a story. I guess that what I am trying to say is that a great man like this can not be replaced. He always did what he could for his family and friends before himself. There is no one to blame but the two that where involved. Spider-Man...and the Green Goblin. If it was not for them he would still be with us to this day...

Gwen saw Harry nodding yes when Jamison blamed Spider-Man and the Green Goblin. She just kept asking herself how he would feel if he knew that the Goblin was his father.

...Their battle destroyed a family at the core. Thats why in the honor and the memory of Captain Stacy...I vow that I wont stop until Spider-Man and the Green Goblin are brought to justice. Thats all i have to say for now. Again my heart goes out to his family, and the citizens that want to see justice."

MeanWhile....

Peter was at the place that he failed to save the father of his love. He stood still as regular citizens past by with the memory of Captain Stacy. When they walked by they said a small prayer for the family.

He looked up at the spot. The seen replayed in his head how one moment he was alive and then he was not. He remembers the demonic grin on the Goblins face. He saw Gwens face when he saw her at the top.

He walked to a near by ally, he didn't change into his suit. He shot two walls that where opposite of each other. He held the webs and walked backwards. He lifted his feet and he launched up in the air.

He swung to a building that had Gargoyles on it and sat next to one. He started thinking to himself.

"Damn what should I do...i was invited to the funeral and Aunt May is there. I can't go near his family though...they need their space from me...my alter ego... Maybe its a test, maybe she does want me to go but shes testing if i will go or not."

Peter closed his eyes and imagined himself in a white room with uncle Ben and Captain Stacy.

"Captain Stacy i am sorry that i failed to save you. Your family has invited me to your funeral but i don't know if i should go or not."

"Peter you should go. You should go and be there and see everyone but everyone else should not see you especially not Gwen." Said The imaginary Captain Stacy.

"He is right Peter, we heard your thoughts. Its not a test, she wants to see you but at the same time she wishes that you where at the opposite side of the world." Said Imaginary Uncle Ben.

"I understand. Thank you both and again i'm sorry i couldn't save you." Peter said as he opened his eyes and looked at the the Gargoyle.

Peter got up and leaped off the building.

Meanwhile...

The final person said their final words. The cops that where there fired shots into the air in memory of Captain Stacy. The Stacy family got up and placed their roses on the coffin as everyone else did the same behind them.

They all walked out as the rain poured harder. By this moment Peter had arrived and he was on top of the church looking down at everyone. He saw Gwen as he shivered a little.

Gwen stopped as Flash walked up to her and hugged her to comfort her then he left. Harry walked over to her and gave her her father badge that he managed to get from the evidence area in the police station with his money. MJ walked up to her and placed her forehead on Gwen's as they both started tearing up again. She hugged MJ. Aunt May walked up to Gwen to pay her respects to the family as for Peter as well.

She looked up at the buildings around her hoping for a glimpse of Peter or him in his Spider-Man suit.

Peter saw Gwen look in his direction and he hide behind one of the pillars. He was soaked and tears fell from his eyes. He felt horrible for his failure. He did not know if he could forgive himself.

When it was clear he swung to Harrys penthouse. He was living there with Aunt May as his house was getting rebuilt.

He went into his room in the penthouse and looked at the suitcase that his suit was in.

"I guess I'm back to square one.."
