You had approached him so many moons ago. There was a gentleness in your tone that his family couldn't replicate if keeping their limbs depended on it. There was a worry for a boy as young as him to be out alone at night. It was only when you knelt to be eye level with Rui that the moon gave a beam that illuminated his features just right. But it was too late to run.

You'd been caught in his web.

Your joints creaked with being strung up in such a way. You dangled, swaying in the breeze as you wrists bent back to nearly touch your knees. Your back was forced to curve inward. It wasn't the position that put you in tears. Even if it drew a sharp gasp at the sudden contortion of your body. Webbing that was as strong as steel and held the sharpness of a razor blade bit into your clothes and pricked at your skin. The thin cuts already spilled a dose of red that matched his eye, which was looking at you with such an intensity that you were sure that this was your fate. To be devoured like a butterfly caught up in a spider's silk.

"Again"

"Wha?" You paused to sniff. Confusion was written plainly across your features.

He merely closed the gap to better examine you. "Say it again." The demon instructed plainly with an underlying ice in his tone. The threads that held you tightened a hair at a twitch of his finger and cut a little deeper. Blood was flowing more generously now. It soaked the nearly invisible wires and stained the ground below. The pitter-patter of the droplets mixed nicely with your tittering cries, in his opinion.

You swallowed and gathered up your voice, lest you be cut even deeper. "What are you.. hah.. doing out here? It's too dangerous." The wavering in your voice was pitiful, even to you, but you'd only heard stories about demons when you were young. Far off tales of misbehaving children getting eaten when they played after dark. Boogeymen to keep you inside in the false safety of your home's walls.

But you'd never imagined that one would have a child's face.

"Let me take you back to the village so you'll be safe. I can-" There was hesitation at the owlish blink you received. Rui waited with a small breath that he didn't even realize he was holding. "I can take care of you."

Silence wore on for a moment before he dropped you all together. Small hands gripped your wrist and brought the bleeding flesh to his lips. "You can take care of me." He echoed before his tongue laved lazily along one of the cuts. The demon hummed at the taste. "I hope for your sake that you weren't lying about that. I don't have mercy for liars."

Even without the show of his elongated canines in a slight grin that showed off hints of your blood staining his pearly whites, something in the back of your mind knew that what he said was the truth.
