"how much do you value your friends?"

he asked. i looked up at his voice breaking the silence. his eyes were focused on the setting sun. something was off. it felt like the happy energy he radiated earlier, had vanished.
so did the nice weather. wind suddenly started blowing and the sun hid behind the clouds. it made people pack up their stuff and leave. the big crowd now changed into only him and me and some old woman walking her dog.

i somehow sensed that giving an answer wouldn't make him feel better, thus i didn't say anything. i simply waited for him to talk. but he didn't. he just sat, thinking. his mind was busy digesting everything that had happened the past few months. he had yet to take some time to sit still and let it all sink in.

"you must have a lot," i said. he finally looked down at me. "a lot of what?" he questioned calmly. "a lot," i repeated. "a lot on your mind." he moved his hand from the grass to stroke my hair, his eyes now focused on me. "i do," he gave me a small smile.
