It was cold. The late afternoon breeze swept across the town, rustling the loose-dangling leaves of the trees still left and sending a chorus of cracking echoes through the previously silent buildings. The town had been abandoned for a month now, seemingly empty yet boasting an image of a perfectly cared for and occupied town- a normal town, not devastated by disaster. However, in the months since the sudden and frightful evacuation, no human- or faunus- had dared to venture into the eerie ghost town.

And so it seemed empty, however there were still glimpses of life that would show themselves when the opportunity came.

A little pair of feet scurried across a dusty wood floor, with almost a little playful bounce to its strides. No doubt this was a child. However, when she emerged from round the corner, one could immediately guess that she had been forced to age beyond her years. Her face was stained with red scabs and brown of dirt, and with hints of bags under her eyes. Her faunus ears, a pair of rabbit ears- only one remained to perk up to the sound of the wind blowing through the leaves.

The evacuation had occurred to protect many from the Grimm attacks, which had been occurring more and more often, each on a grander scale and each more devastating than the last. Most of the town's residents had been relocated in the city of Vacuo, the closest living safe-haven around. However, it had been too late for too many. This town, in particular, had been one of the few that had suffered an attack before the evacuations had been set to follow, because of its remote location in the Vacuo desert and its forgetful small population. Therefore, many families were split, wives widowed, and children orphaned.

The girl looked to be about ten, but it was difficult to tell since she was also several pounds underweight. Her eyes darted about as she scanned the living room of the abandoned house, hoping maybe it would be safe to stay in for the night. In her arms she held several cans of food she had scavenged from the kitchen's cupboards, a measly attempt at finding food for the day.

"Hey!" a startling cry sounded, piercing the deadly silence lingering around the faunus girl. She nearly jumped at the volume- she was used to the soft melody of the flying leaves outside the crashed in window. She swiveled around slightly, while trying to keep hold of her cans. Soon she noticed a boy, definitely older than her, running down the hallway of the residence with a sharp, shiny object in hand. Her heart immediately sped up, and, dropping all hopes of dinner that night, bolted down the opposite end of the corridor with a goal to reach the house's back door.

She hustled towards it, not even regretting leaving behind the canned food. Like they say, there's a lot of fish in the pond. She could easily find some more elsewhere. What she was worried about was the armed boy chasing her wildly a few paces behind. Even with her incredible speed for a girl in her condition, it couldn't last forever, and long at last he would catch up. Which means she'd have to lose him soon.

"Hey, you faunus trash! Stop running so I can teach you lesson for stealin' my food!" the boy threatened menacingly. The girl took a quick glance back, and captured a moment of the boy in her mind like a snapshot. He had a dagger, and a big one on that matter.

She ran between two narrowly-spaced houses, hoping that with his bigger form he'd take longer to fit through. Unfortunately, she hadn't realized the looming shadow over her as she emerged from the alley until it was too late, and she felt two thick, strong hands grab at her. One caught her arm, and the other caught her ear.

It was a boy even older than the other, probably in his mid teens regarding the fact that he had a few specks of hair on his chin. It was stretching in a menacing smirk as her body was violently slammed up against a building with her feet left dangling. She let out a gasp of air, the pain of being hanged by her ear shooting down her spine and instantly setting on a dreadful headache.
