Colson stood in the middle of his room, starring at himself in the mirror as he ran his hands through his darken hair. His varsity jacket draped over his broad shoulders, red eyes gleaming in the reflection. He looked down at the right side of his jacket, the letter 'C' stitched into the leather signally his position as captain. 'Fitting for a soon-to-be alpha' he thought to himself as he headed downstairs into the kitchen, only to find a middle aged woman with jet black hair and piercing ice blue eyes sitting at the table, surrounded by the many folders regarding the members of the pack, her pack. Colson smiled at the thought of one day, coming down the same stairs he has done so many times before, but seeing his one true love, his mate in the chair instead of the women who gave him life. To see his mate's belly swollen with the joy of a pup growing inside of her, another pup already running around the house that would hold so many memories and create many new ones. Walking up to his mother, Colson bent down and kissed the top of her head gently "morning ma" he whispered before grabbing an apple from the counter.

"Morning baby, happy birthday" his mother, Annabella said before turning around in the chair and smiled at her oldest child.

"Remember you have dinner tonight with your father and sister, and the pack party this weekend so don't make plans. Dinner is at seven, so please be on time and for the love of the moon Goddess do not get into a fight today" she said laughing as she turned back into her chair and continued to update the files of those who were under her protection and leadership.

Colson let out a laugh as he nodded his head, picking up his keys to the car from the counter beside him and smirked "Come on ma, I'll be good I promise. It's the one day of the year where I listen after all" he joked before walking up to his mom, and hugging her from the side "thank you, for being my mom though. I never appreciate you enough ya know?" he chuckled, kissing her cheek and headed out towards his car.

Colson headed towards his blood red 2019 Alfa Romeo Stelvio TI, smirking as he saw his best friend, and future beta Xavier standing at the passenger door, his eyes closed and his purple hair falling in front of his face. Colson began to walk quietly, crouching down to the ground as he planned to sneak up on Xavier, a vengeance for whatever prank the purplette played on him the day before. As Colson got close enough, he smirked to himself, ready to pounce on the unexpected victim. "Don't even think about it Colson, you may be the future alpha but I'll see get a couple of nasty hits in" Xavier said without opening his eyes

"Dude, I swear, if it wasn't for your heightened senses I would get you" Colson said pouting as he walked to the other side of the car and opened the doors, getting in and sighing.

The car had its new scent filled within the confined space, the leather seats squeaking as weight was put onto them. Colson threw his bag into the back of the car, turning the ignition on and flipped through the radio until he landed on his station; country. Xavier shook his head, a small snicker escaped his lips as he leaned his head against the window and closed his eyes "big bad alpha of one of the greatest packs in the world listens to country music. Now, THAT'S something you don't hear of everyday."

Colson rolled his eyes at his best friend as he drove from the pack house and down the road, the silence oddly comforting as his company had fallen asleep. Yes he liked country music, even though he knew it was not a fan favourite, but something about the love songs they sung made it hit home all that much more. The songs tugged on his heart strings with every word and sound, relating to the way he wished he felt, only to know that eventually he would once he found his mate. Mate. The word plagued Colson's mind once more as he turned into the school parking lot and sighed. He was finally seventeen, which meant that he was of age to find his mate, and once he found her he could take over as Alpha of his pack. For the BloodNight Pack had a strict rule that in order to be Alpha, you must have your Luna by your side. Mostly, because a Luna will ground you, calm you and stop you from making such rash decisions that could potentially endanger those under your command.

Colson parked his car in his usual spot, turning the ignition off before looking over at the still sleeping Xavier and smirked. 'This is the perfect opportunity' he thought to himself, as he took a deep breath in, ready to scream as loud as possible.

"Really Colson, you need to be more creative. Screaming to wake me up? If you weren't so caught up in your thoughts and your ego you could have clued into my heart rate increasing and that I've been awake for the last five minutes." Xavier said as he quickly unbuckled himself and ran out of the car, grabbing his backpack on the way,

Colson grumbled as he stepped out of the car, grabbing his backpack and headed towards his group of friends where Xavier was and growled "if you weren't my best friend I have your head for talking to me like that" he joked playfully, acting intimidating.

Xavier rolled his eyes, and bowed towards Colson a smirked on his lips "I am so sorry your highness, I will remember my place along with the peasants from now on" he said gesturing towards the group of friends that surrounded him.

Colson let out a chuckle, shaking his chest slightly as he began to walk away, his friends following behind him in the process. He let his mind drift away again to his birthday party this weekend and sighed. He knew what would happen, alcohol, loud music, girls, and a nasty hangover that would make him regret his every decision the following morning. He walked over to his locker, opening the combination and took out his book for advanced English. Looking over from the corner of his eye, he saw Xavier having someone in a headlock and let out a laugh shaking his head "y'all are something."

Suddenly, a wave of lavender and peaches filled the air, causing Colson's head to shoot up and sniff the air once more. The wolf inside him, who was named Davian, was running around in circles, restlessness taking over as the urge to find the reason for this smell overwhelmed him. That's when he saw her. The girl who has the locker down from him, with her silver hair and violet eyes shining against the dull lights of the hallway. His wolf head peaked up in Colson mind, repeating one word over and over again.

Mate.

Colson rushed over and pushed the girl against the lockers, his hands holding him up as they rested on either side of her head, his face buried in her neck and taking in her sweet smell. "Mate" he growled out happily.
