"Mitch, who's your boyfriend?"
"Mitch, tell us more about the blond you're being seen with!"
"Mitch, are you dating Scott?"
"Mitch, is Scott really just an experiment?"
"When will we get more news about your boyfriend?"
Kirstin sat beside Mitch, her arms crossed over her chest and a pout on her lips. They had recently released a new album, and were doing a press conference of sorts to avoid dozens of interviews. But it seemed that people only had eyes for Mitch. He was not, however, answering their questions concerning his love life.
"Does your silence mean that you're dating Scott?"
"No comment!" Mitch said. "Does anyone have any questions about the album?"
"What do your parents think of your relationship with Scott?"
"How did you find out his name?" Mitch demanded.
"Anyone at all have questions about the album?" Kirstin asked despairingly.
"Can you tell us more about Scott, Mitch?"
"Give us specifics about your relationship with your boyfriend, Mitch."
That was the question that finally did it. Mitch had promised Scott that the media wasn't going to learn anything about their relationship. He wouldn't even confirm it.
"We're leaving," Mitch said, standing up. He walked out of the room, ignoring the shocked reactions. Kirstin followed him, picking up her purse and tossing him his sunglasses as they went outside.
_
"How could you just walk out on them?" Esther demanded. Mitch felt Kirstin grab his hand. Their manager had no problem giving them trouble for things they shouldn't have done, and they both knew that she would be angry about this. They were supposed to stay, answering relevant questions and looking pretty. Instead, they left.
"I told you to answer the relevant questions, and just to sit tight if there were irrelevant questions," Esther continued. "Why didn't you do that?"
"Because there were no relevant questions!" Mitch said. "We couldn't just keep waiting."
"We agreed that we would leave if they asked questions about Scott and Mitch that made Mitch uncomfortable," Kirstin added. "We had to tell them, 'You can't just ask whatever you would like.'"
Esther was quiet for a moment. "Go home," she said. "Your parents know what you did. I'll let them deal with this. Don't do it again."
Mitch and Kirstin walked out of the room together.
"We did nothing wrong, and our parents will agree," Kirstin murmured.
"We'll see," Mitch responded.
_
"Scott!" Scott looked around when he heard his name. He saw some young adults sitting together. One came up to him. "My name is Ava Smith; I work for the newspaper," she explained. "Can you answer some questions for us about your alleged relationship with Mitch Grassi?"
"It doesn't exist; we're just friends," Scott replied. "I'm not gay."
Ava Smith walked away with a huff. Scott smiled to himself as he walked back to his friends.
"I can't believe I can't go to get us coffee without hearing about Mitch," he grumbled.
"I know!" Nicole agreed enthusiastically. "It's silly."
"It's ridiculous," chimed in Kevin.
"Well," Scott said, sighing dramatically. "I guess I'll just have to deal with it." He shrugged. "I'll live. But I just hope I did the right thing in telling them that our relationship doesn't exist."
_
"Good boy," Mitch praised. "You did the right thing. I'm happy with you."
"Thanks," Scott said happily. One of the best things he could imagine was being praised by Mitch. He wasn't even entirely sure why he lived for it so much. But he loved the praise.
"We need to get them to stop asking these questions," Mitch said.
"We do," Scott agreed. He thought for a moment. "Do-do you think I did something to help by telling them that our relationship didn't exist?"
"Of course," Mitch responded. "But, well, we need to do something more. Something like...a public falling out."
"What do you mean?" Scott asked him.
"Well, we'll still be together," Mitch told him. "But we don't have to make that apparent. We should have a big argument somewhere in public, get lots of people to film it. Then, we'll pretend to want nothing to do with each other. How does that sound?"
"It sounds good," Scott responded. "But we should stage the argument on a day when you have a concert. At the concert, you can apologize if you seem a bit off, and you can say that you just had to break up with your boyfriend, and you can say something negative about me. Nothing that will make me get bullied, but just something to make people say, 'He really hates him now.' And maybe, whenever people ask you questions about me, then you could say something like, 'No. No. I really don't want to think about him. He broke my heart.'"
Mitch nodded eagerly. "Let's plan that out right now!" he said excitedly.

So, this conflict is about done. Which means that, after the next chapter, I can move on to the next disaster! *laughs evilly*
Also, I'm curious (and you guys aren't commenting) so I have two questions.
∙ How did you find my story? Was it off to the side of a story you were reading? Did you search something and scroll down and find this? How did you come across it?
∙ What do you think their staged argument will be about?
