The year was 3020, and even after a thousand years, the war on peace still ran rampant in the United States. Though there were some changes, just keep in mind, change isn't always a good thing.

Everything in the world we know today is a result of the year 2020, so affectionately called 'The Redacted Year'. When you're reading this, it'll probably be so far past 2020 that classes don't bother to teach about this particular year, and here's why: Shit hit the fan. At the beginning of the year, there were threats of world war three (crazy to think that was only the third when we're now on world war seven), brush fires in Australia, and that was only January. After that, there was a global pandemic that most countries took seriously, but not the good ole U.S of A, the American citizens were told to self-quarantine and wear masks to prevent the spread of Covid-19, so what did Americans do? They partied and turned wearing a mask into being a violation of their rights, pretty stupid if you ask me. Not too long after the pandemic started, a racist asshole kneeled down on George Floyds neck (that's a name the history books try to keep hush hush, along with Breonna Taylor and hundreds of other black victims of police brutality. But if you know where to search on the deeper parts of the internet you can read all about it) which lead to the protests against police brutality... that ended up causing more police brutality which kinda just proved- Okay, I'm getting off track.

After all the protests, America was placed under marshal law thanks to the president at the time, a president who successfully created dictatorship in 'The Land of the Free'. After becoming sole ruler of the country, him and his cabinet empowered many bigots, racists and facists across the country, leading to more racial injustice.

Fast forward a couple years and the war on peace started, yeah, a WAR on PEACE. Not only was this another civil war, but many other countries that were once considered allies were fighting against us in order to help liberate the American citizens that needed liberating. This whole war stressed the president out so bad that his heart basically stopped working (all the McDonald's he eats probably didn't help his heart either, but I digress) so BOOM, heart transplant.

After that, a lot of the people fighting for peace and equality were praying he would have dropped dead at that point. However, just like a cat, that president had nine lives, and I mean that metaphorically and literally. Mister President wanted to be the longest lasting ruler of America so he had the top doctors working on a serum to give everlasting youth, which always worked. Only catch was that you had to die for the serum to work when injected, kind of like a check point in a video game. That man has died at least a hundred times, but look at him now, still striving... Unfortunately.

It was around 3000 when the United States was working on a new method of chemical warfare that was supposed to be air dropped above an opposing country and fill their lungs with a gas that essentially drowned them to death with their own blood. That wasn't the case, or I wouldn't be here to tell the tale, now would I? No, the was an accidental explosion from said laboratory, causing the gas to leak out, and if frijoles have taught me anything, it is that gas is hard to contain. This special gas spread across America, infecting thousands of innocent people. The catch? Oh, there's always a catch with these things. Well, no one knows the uppity terms for everything that went wrong with the gas except the higher ups but when it hit the lungs of the U.S citizens it did indeed choke them out, but not with their own blood. The people who inhaled the gas had their esphogus shut completely until they blacked out and dropped dead where ever they stood last. Don't worry, their date with death didn't last long. After they died, their last breath released the gas they had left in them and they woke up, healthy, and dare I say it, better than ever. There was just one problem: Their eye's had changed, not the shape or size, just the color. Unnatural colors that belonged in a crayon box. Along with the changing of their eyes came other mutations, but the mutation always coincided with the color of their eyes, for example, lets take the color red. Those with deep red eyes had the ability to control bloodflow in other people, while those with bright red eyes had the ability to manipulate fire.

Once government officials got word of these mutations, the were quick to do damage control, all you would see is a person of colored eyes get pulled in to the back of a black unmark van. Never to be seen or heard from again.

Oh, where do I come in with all of this? Well I was a sweet little baby chilling in my car seat as my mom ran in and out the house with groceries, leaving the doors open for ventilation and what not. I don't remember anything, I was a baby for crying out loud, but whenever I ask my mom to tell me what happened that day she said she head a small choking cough coming from the car but when she got to me it stopped. She told me she picked me up and began sobbing, the thought of losing the only kid she had was devastating to her, but once that last breath containing the gas left my lungs I woke up crying. There was just one problem, my light brown eyes had changed to a dark forest green.

From then on, I wasn't allowed to leave the house, only homeschooled and babysat by close family members that knew the situation. No one really knew what the green eyes meant until I was about two and throwing a temper tantrum over being denied a snack and a small venus fly try sprouted from my head. We still have that plant in the house as a little keepsake to remember the first time my powers showed themselves.

It wasn't until I was about to go in to middle school that my mom was able to save up enough money to illegally buy colored contacts, I had to wear those bad boys anytime I wanted to leave my house, and thanks to the contacts I was able to finally go to a real school with other kids. The outside world always seemed nice on the T.V but when I went out, I realized it was only nice if you were one of the following: White, rich, or racist. Typically all three of those characteristics coincided with one another, but hey, I grew up fine and happy.

In my community all I had to worry about was staying out of trouble with the police who heavily patrolled the area, I always wondered what would have happened if one day I just slipped up, forgot my contacts completely. What would happen to me? Where would they take me?

Then it happened, I was trying to walk home from work and I got bumped, tripped, and my contact fell out.
