"So explain to me why I'm here." I said, looking at Emma as I stood to the side. It was Coven Day and last time I checked I wasn't a witch, Hope had been keeping me close to her ever since my breakdown with Landon. I tell her I'm okay but she doesn't believe me, which is why I'm with Emma right now.

"I just wanted your insight on witches. I mean you must know all about them." Emma says and I give her a look.

"I've already apologised for lashing out at Landon to Hope, I honestly don't see how this is any of your concern." I said, and she looks at me.

"It's not because you lashed out at Landon, it's because the next person you lash out, you might go too far."

"She thinks you're dangerous. They all do."

"I know how to keep myself in check, I don't need you for that." I snapped at her, giving her a glare, "Thanks for the tour, I'll be on my way now." Before she could say anything else, I walked off down the halls keeping a straight face. As I was walking, someone bumped into me making me glare at them.

"Watch where you're going." I snapped at them and I see it was Alyssa Chang.

"How about you use those wings of yours and fly away."

"How about you shut your mouth before teeth start falling out."

"Woah, woah. Hey, there. Okay, bye Alyssa." Landon says, coming to drag me away and I take my hand out of his grasp.

"Let go of me Frodo." I said, and he gives me a look.

"Are you okay? How are you feeling?"

"He thinks you're weak. That you're not capable of looking after yourself. Cut off loose ends."

"I'm fine Landon, so how about you make yourself disappear. I don't need you, I never did." I said, glaring at him and walking away. I felt a vibrations coming from my pocket, I see it was my phone and saw that Ethan had texted.

"He's mortal and once he finds out who you really are, he's going to leave. Just like everyone in your life."

I pocketed my phone and walked myself over to the library, I picked up a book and I saw my seat was taken. I walked over and I see one of the vampires sitting in my seat.

"Scram." I said, pushing their books off the table.

"Hey!"

"Unless you want to lose oxygen, I suggest you move along." I said, glaring at them. They gave me a quick look before grabbing their stuff, I smirked and sat down. I was reading when I hear footsteps, making me look to see it was Landon and Wade.

"The side kick convention is in town, goodie." I said, looking at them.

"Oh good we found you. There's something wrong." Landon says and I snickered.

"Yeah, your fashion sense. What'd you do, borrow it from your grandpa?"

"You said my look was classic?"

"We don't have time for this. There's a monster on campus named Qareen and he feeds off negative energy." Wade says and I looked at them, before it comes to me.

"Oh my god, I'm sorry Landon."

"Yeah, well I just know it's not really you." He says and I get up.

"So, what do we do?"

"I've recently discovered I was a fairy and that's the Qareen's weakness."

"You're a fairy? That's hard to believe." I said, and I sighed, "I'm sorry Wade."

"Okay, let's go meet Lizzie and Hope."

"The Qareen does have an Achilles' heel. Uh, it's weak to myrrh, Sinbad's scimitar and fairies." Landon reads the book in front of him and I looked to see Wade was puffing out his chest.

"Don't even think about it." Lizzie and I say at the same time.

"Why don't you believe me?" Wade says, looking at me, "I thought you out of all people would believe me."

"Lucky for you I'm having trouble with my powers. Like Landon who thinks training is going to help with protecting himself, see delusional." I said, before snapping back to it looking at Landon, "Lan, I didn't- I shouldn't have said that."

"You know the reason I'm training is to be able to help you and Hope with all this hero stuff?"

"I'm the only one who's actually doing any hero work, all you do is pass out." Hope says, looking at me making me raise an eyebrow, "If we need someone to die a lot or to be picked on, we'll know who to call." Wade gets up and leaves, I sat there and she looks at us both.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean it." Hope says sighing.

"Actually, you did. The Qareen magnifies insecurities. It doesn't make them." Landon says making me purse my lips.

"Great what now?"

"Hey book nerds." Alyssa says, walking into the library, "There's a monster on campus. It kind of looks like the pimple Hope had last week."

"Are you it wasn't your own reflection?"

"Alyssa the tough act isn't working for you, so don't even try it." I snapped at her and I sighed, realising what I just said.

"Great, it's strong enough to be on our plane."

"Well you should probably go somewhere, so you don't get yourself kidnapped."

"I don't think it's after me, like it actively avoided Wade and me."

"Then what does it want?" Hope asked, frowning.

"We should go let Alaric know what's going on." I said, and we all left for his office. Just as we got in there, we found Josie unconscious on her father's office floor.

"Josie." Lizzie says, rushing to her sisters side, "Josie, wake up." Josie's eyes begin to flutter open and I sighed in relief.

"Jo, are you okay? What happened?"

"Monster. It took the Sandclock." Josie says, sitting up and I frowned.

"The Sandclock? Why?"

"It doesn't matter. We just need to get it back." Lizzie says, "We can take this thing out, okay? We're three bad ass witches, one moderately competent bird and a Nephilim."

"Yeah I wouldn't hold my breathe." I said, and just before anyone could say anything I felt a pain in my head making me hiss.

"What? Are you okay?" Hope asked and I frowned, shaking my head.

"I-I-," Just as I go to utter another word another stab of pain over took my body, making me wobble before falling.

"Woah, Mae." Landon says, catching me. The pain becomes more prominent and I started to scream, holding my head.

"Alecto."

"Stop! Stop it!"

"What's going on? Charmeine talk to me." Hope says, coming to my level and just as I go to say something, the pain gets worse by the second.

"You will rise again Alecto, in the name of Arcadius."

"It hurts! Make it stop! Please, make it stop!" I cried out, tears coming to my eyes.

"What can we do?" Lizzie asked, looking over me in concern.

"I don't care! Just make it stop!" I screamed, feeling my power surge in me, "Hurry!"

"Ad somnum." Hope says, and I was met with darkness.
