I love lies. They are truths that anyone can create, but they also don't come at a cheap price. they require high intelligence, quick thinking, luck and most importantly, charisma. Lies are the fundament to the truth and therefore, the story I'm about to tell you is the truth in its purest form. So pure that the contents don't matter one bit. This is the truth and questioning it is utterly pointless since the outcome is the same no matter how many lies, I tell.
1 year ago, I experienced something unusual. It happened when I was on a business trip in a small Japanese town called Kahenichi. Kahenichi is located on an island, not far from mainland Japan, only connected by a relatively small bridge. Kahenichi is the only town on the small island, having only around one thousand residents. The town's main income is tourism and fishing, but rumors said that the small town was dealing with the export of illegal substances. although, that wasn't the reason that I had chosen this town for my business trip. No, the reason for choosing this town was that I had read a report of a 16-year-old girl that had killed herself by jumping off the bridge. She was found by an old couple when they were taking a stroll down the harbor, early in the morning. Ever since the discovery of the girl's body, the town had been on edge, so I saw it as an opportunity to collect a story.
For some weird reason, there's a train that goes straight from Niigata to Kahenichi. The two cities aren't very far from each other, but to cross the bridge to Kahenichi you must use a special, lightweight but slow and small, train. With it being a straight ride from Niigata to Kahenichi, you have to ride in the slow train all the way there, making it slower than taking a high-speed train a quarter of the way and then hopping on a bus ride to the bridge that leads to Kahenichi and then taking the slow train over the bridge.
Despite the direct-ride train being slower, I still chose to take it, since a straight ride would be calmer and more fun, and it gave me time to think about what I wanted to do when I arrived in Kahenichi. Not that it mattered of course, the result is the same anyways. No matter how much I thought about what I was going to do when I arrived, I would always reach the same conclusion. The same situation. The same person. The same story.
Anyways. When I arrived after my boring and uneventful ride, I met a boy. His name doesn't matter right now. No, what does matter right now is what he said to me after I got out of the train.
"What do you want?"
It was a simple question with an even more simple answer. I don't want anything. I'm not here to gain anything. I'm not here to lose anything. I may as well not be here, but here I am. I told him that.
There was no hostility in his eyes or in his body movement, but his words hit harder than a bullet. This was going to be a tough opponent. Not that I was unsure if I was going to win or not. I always win. No matter the opponent. Especially against this boy. Fooling the people around him would be a piece of cake.
I'm constantly traveling the world but, when signing into the hotel I was staying at, it was faster and more streamlined than I've ever seen before. I wrote "Fabric All-In-One" on the paper I had to sign. That name was as good as real at that point in time.
The hotel was very standard, although a bit luxurious compared to the price, and a tad bit bigger than what I had expected. The security wasn't lacking either. It wasn't one of those hotels where you could do something suspicious without being noticed.
The bed was very comfy too. Perfect for "my plan". Or so I was told.
The next day, I got out of bed early. I wanted to get as much time as possible to experience the city, since I thought that I wouldn't come there ever again. It's not like I was expecting anything out of my business trip. The story I was going to get was probably very mediocre, I thought. Surprisingly enough, it was actually a lot worse.
