Chapter 2: Watched

Our alpha turned his angered expression on each of our lowered faces. "Don't you know that we have a guest, someone visiting from the high court?" Alpha Redforce declared as he gestured to the dragon heir of the high court.

The man standing beside him was elderly to say the least, let alone ancient; but dragons were known to have very long life spans. The dragon heir's eyes shrunk under the folded skin of his laugh lines, and his tall figure was topped with a tuffet of white hair; his long red traditional robe hanging loosely on his gangly body.

The grandfatherly man gave a slight chuckle as he patted Alpha Redforce on the back. "It's quite alight Red, these youngsters are just having some good ol' fashioned fun." Grace laughed at the man's jesture of calling her father 'Red'; no one called him that except his mate.

Alpha Redforce blushed at the nickname and bowed to his elder. "Greatest apologizes your highness," he started. "but these wolves can be quite a handfull at times." His eyes quickly caught the amusement in ours' and evaporated our fun.

Straightening, Alpha Redforce addressed our small group again. "Now, what is going on exactly?" His comanding alpha tone made Chasson and Raychel gulp as Brant stepped forward.

"My friends here won't except my mate and I." At Brant's words, Redforce's eyes flared. "You mean to tell me that your packmates deny the fates' desicion?!?!" Everyone but Brant and Marcie flinched at his tone. Grace stumbled to her father on woobly legs.

"Alpha, you don't understand, Marcie isn't even eighteen yet." Grace informed her father. Embarrassment lit the alpha's face as his eyes burned in rage toward Brant. "Is this true, Brant?" The alpha strained.

Brant started to look uncomfortable as Redforce glared at him. "Ye-yes sir." Brant spat out. "But I must assure you, we are mates. You see, we have a bond tha-." Brant was cut off at Redforce's howl.

"There is no such thing as a pre-aged 'bond'! Not even the most strongest of mates can know!" Alpha Redforce was boiling now. "Do I have to send you back to pre-school? Gosh, and I thought you were beta material!" Brant shrunk at alpha's growls; it made me almost feel sorry for him. Almost.

Alpha Redforce was about to go on another raid of lecturing until the soft hand of Silince, his mate, lightly stroked his shoulder. "Red," she cooed. "you remeber when we were their age, we couldn't wait until we found our mates." Grace made a gagging gesture towards me as her mother swooned her father.

"Remember when Gernixx here thought that I was his mate?" Silince said as she motioned to his beta. A low growl escaped Redforce's lips before his wolf calmed.

"Yes yes, I remember." He replied unhappily.

Clapping his hand, the elderly man that had stood silent fo rthe little exchange smiled. "Kids will be kids, but Red, why I came." He cleared his throat and motioned towards us as he waited for our alpha's reply.

"Yes of course. Again I must ask for your apologies, your lordship."

The shriveled man waved the apology away as if nothing had occured. "Of nothing my dear friend. Of nothing." The cloaked man now turned his attention to us, eyeing us with his coal black eyes.

"Looks like we have a fine young group of Wolfin Shifters here!" he exclaimed. And Chasson being Chasson asked what in the world a Wolfin Shifter was. The look on the old man's face was filled with shock. "Why, it's what ya are boy." He pointed his wooden staff at Chasson's chest and continued. "Well, that was the old tongue term. I guess you use slang and call yourselves werewolves nowadays; but that's not why I'm here" His face turned very serious now as he continued.
