The start of Logan's day was like the start of any other. He woke up to renegade blasting through his roommate's phone. "Renegade, renegade, renegade, renegade." His roommate chanted as he recorded himself dancing along. So typical of him to follow the trends. Logan buried his face into his pillow. 'I'll never understand popular music.' He thought to himself. "70s underground punk is way better than this crap.'
After lying in bed for a few more minutes, Logan decided to get up. He followed his morning routine without thinking much of it. As he put on his blue running shorts and grey cotton shirt his roommate finally decided to go to bed. Logan rolled his eyes. He could never understand how his roommate could go to sleep at 5 in the morning. Nevertheless he pulled on his sneakers, grabbed his water bottle, and headed out the door.

After practice Logan returned to his dorm more exhausted than usual. Ever since starting his job at the coffee shop he just couldn't seem to get enough sleep. Between cross country, school, and his new job, Logan was worn. He laid back down on his bed and contemplated skipping class for a nap. Any other day he would call into work, but it was Thursday which meant it'd be open mic night. And open mic night meant he'd get to see her.
Alyssa Summers, the only reason Logan had started working at the coffee shop. Every Thursday night she performed an original song, and every Thursday Logan couldn't get enough. This open mic night was special though. This time he was going to ask her out.
He used a little more water than usual to style his hair, donned his nicest pair of khakis (cuffed once as always), and even switched out his usual cotton t-shirt for a nice polo. His phone chimed from its position on his bed. It chimed again as he crossed the room to read the messages.
The first message from his best friend Mo read: Better not be late to class! Logan quickly assured him he wouldn't be before reading the next message. Hey Logan, this is Marco from Nutrition. Are you available to work on that group project tonight? Logan explained that he had work then threw his backpack over his shoulder and headed to class.

"Thought you weren't gonna be late." Mo fired as Logan took his seat in class.
"Thanks for saving me a seat bud." Logan said, ignoring his friend's attitude.
Mo rolled his eyes leaning back into his seat as the professor droned on about the civil war. Logan already knew the civil war like the back of his hand and soon found himself doodling instead of paying attention. "When are you gonna shoot your shot?" Mo asked.
Logan stopped his doodling to find that he'd been writing her name over and over. "Tonight." He responded. "I'm going to ask her out tonight."
"No wonder you're so dressed up today." Mo said. Logan just smiled and turned the page of his notebook. Just as he did the professor dismissed the class.
"You doing anything after this class?" Logan asked.
"Meeting my girl for lunch." Mo replied. "Maybe after tonight you and Alyssa can join us." With that, Mo grabbed his bag and headed out of the classroom.

Logan decided to grab lunch from the convenience store on campus before going to work. As he was deciding between getting a blue or red gatorade his attention was forced upon a girl across the room. "Yes, babe!" She said loudly. "I'll be there tonight, and I'm bringing you a surprise."
The girl crossed the room to where Logan was standing. She covered the phone and addressed Logan. "'Scuse me." She said reaching past him to grab a smoothie. "Ok babe, I'll see you when I get there! Kisses!" She said into the phone before hanging up.
"Oh my God, Kendall is that you?" Another girl screeched running up to the girl standing next to Logan. They kissed each other on the cheeks. They began loudly chatting with each other, and Logan took the opportunity to leave.

It was an hour and twenty two minutes into Logan's shift when she finally showed up. Her smile set thousands of butterflies loose in his stomach. Alyssa was beautiful in every way. From her long blonde hair to her voice to the way she held her guitar case, there wasn't a thing Logan could hate about her. For a moment she looked around excitedly, but after scanning the room several times she frowned. She sat near the stage.
"Tonight's the night isn't it?" My manager Moo asked. I nodded, still wondering what it was that made Alyssa so sad. "Well I'm gonna go get this started, good luck." Moo patted me on the back and strolled towards the stage.
"Who's ready for some live music?!" Moo's introduction only got applause from a few people. "Fantastic!" She smiled anyways. "Now let's start off with some alternative tunes from Elanor!"
The first singer took the stage. The night passed slowly. Logan watched as Alyssa gazed around the room and ended up looking down every time, somehow seeming more and more sad each time. Finally it was her time to sing. "Hey guys." She said, resulting in cheers across the room. "Tonight I'm going to be singing an original song called "Fifteen.""
A hush fell over the room as she sang. Logan found himself leaning on the counter watching as she poured her heart into the song, his own heart breaking for Alyssa's fifteen year old self.
At the end of the song the room erupted in applause. Alyssa bowed and made her way to the counter. She sat at a barstool and put her head in her hands. Logan made his way to her. "You did great!" He said, in an effort to cheer her up. "You're so good at writing songs."
Logan cringed at what he said, but Alyssa smiled. "Do you really think so?" She asked. "I thought I was a little pitchy to be honest."
"No!" Logan replied. "You sounded great. You always do." They were both blushing.
"Thanks that means a lot." Alyssa said.
Logan smiled. "Well you know this Saturday there's a-" Logan's sentence was cut off by someone aggressively opening the door.
"Alyssa, babe, oh my God!" A familiar voice screamed. Alyssa turned around to see who it was. The girl ran across the room and threw her arms around Alyssa.
"You made it!" Alyssa hugged her back. "I was starting to think you wouldn't show."
"And miss my girlfriend's performance?" Logan's heart stopped. "Not for the world!"
