Chapter 1- Arrival
Waking up to screaming, I opened my eyes.
Suddenly, I realized that I was not in my comfy purple bed, but flying 100 miles per hour through the air and across an ocean as blue as the night sky.
Hanging onto my leg for dear life was Sam, screaming his heart out. And as I looked around me to see the circumstances we were in, I started screaming too.
Hundreds upon hundreds of feet in the air, you could see miles away. But as I looked around closer, I noticed that the land we were soaring across looked nothing like New York, in fact it didn't even look like planet earth.
As we flew for several more minutes, an island started to come into view. Even as it was surrounded by fog, it was still a beautiful sight to see. It was large, and you could tell that it didn't look like it was supposed to be there. Surrounding it was the bluest water I’ve ever seen, nothing like the east river that flowed so close to home. I could tell that this beautiful piece of land is where we would be landing.
As we got closer the shadow that was carrying us started to descend, lowering us closer and closer towards the mysterious island and its beach, before dropping us completely.
We fell for only a short few seconds, but I immediately felt a throbbing pain in my knees when we landed. As I looked down I noticed blood dripping down my legs and remembered as the shadow dragged me across the glass-shattered floor and out the window. That must have been how it got so scratched up, not to mention the fall we just had.
Sam on the other hand looked completely unharmed, and for that I was grateful. He did look alarmed though, and I was too, thinking about the shadow that just flew us thousands of miles away from our home.
Although I knew he was fine, I asked, “Are you okay?”
Which he replied “No, that shadow thingy just kidnapped us!”
I laughed at that.
All of a sudden I heard the rustle of leaves. Darting my head to the side to see what the commotion was, I saw boys, no, more like teenagers walking out of the underbrush of the forest and into my line of sight.
Immediately I stood up and pressed Sam behind my back and out of their sight.
“Who are you? What do you want from us!” I screamed.
Stepping in front of the others, a tall blond boy with a dark cloak that hid his face, walked up to me. Replying quickly in a gravelly voice he said “We're the lost boys.” and before I could comprehend what he ment, he swung his fist up, hitting me in the head and knocking me out for the second time that day.

Feeling warmth against my face, I opened my eyes to what seemed to be a festival. A huge campfire was placed in the middle of a clearing, and surrounding it was maybe 9-10 boys dancing around the fire.
Feeling giddy listening to the sound of music coming from what sounded like pipes and seeing the happiness in the boys’ steps, I tried to stand up and join. Something restricted me, and I looked down to see rope, tying me to a large tree. Looking around, trying to find something that would get me out of the bind, I noticed Sam tied to similar tree, only feet away.
I also realized he was dead asleep. Maybe one of the boys knocked him out like they did to me? At that thought I grew restless, wanting to check to see if my little brother was all right.
“Sam!” I yelled.
Immediately the boys stopped their festivities and looked over to me, realizing that I wasn't still dozing off.
“She’s awake.” I heard off to the side.
Looking away from Sam, my eyes found their way to a pair of dazzling emeralds, and those beautiful eyes belonging to someone who was just as beautiful. A boy, maybe 18, with curly brown hair, and piercing green eyes stared back at me with a cold look.
“Who are you?” The question popped out of my mouth like a rocket.
“You aren’t really in a position to be asking questions,” The boy replied. “Boys, take her, along with the kid to the cages.”
Almost immediately, the boys closed in around us, almost like dogs following commands from their owners, and started untying me from the tree.
“Wait,” The boy with the eyes spoke out. Instantly they stopped what they were doing and waited.
Seconds later, the boy was standing in front of me with a curious look on his face. Examining my face, he reached out with one hand and gently ran his hand over the scar across my violet eye. Feeling embarrassed, I felt heat rush to my face. His eyebrows rose, and his eyes wandered from eye to eye.
My face remained a curious gaze as he stared at my face for a second longer, and then stood up quickly.
“Forget what I said, Take her to the empty hut with the boy, we’ll get her settled tomorrow morning.” He said quickly.
“But-“ One of the boys tried to reply.
“No buts! Take her to the hut before I rip every one of your arms off and burn them in the fire!” He screamed.
Feeling nervous from the outburst yet thankful for not having the spend the night in a cage, a couple of the boys finished untying us and hauled us to a small hut with fear in their eyes.
