3rd Person POV

Miles Edgeworth was staring at the wall. He had his first trial coming up, and he was terribly nervous. Of course, he had his mentor helping him, which made him slightly less nervous.

"Miles, What are you doing over there? Don't you wanna win you're first case? Come review the case files!" Miles looked behind him and saw his mentor standing there. His name was Diego Armando, a defense attorney who had taken him in after his father was killed.

"Of course sir." He walked over to his mentor, and Diego handed him the case file.

"The defendant's name is Larry Butz. He was accused of murdering his girlfriend, Ms. Cindy Stone." Miles smiled at the statement.

"Larry Butz huh?"

"Do you happen to know the defendant?" Diego asked.

"Yeah, he was one of my childhood friends in fact." Miles stated.

"Is that why you agreed to take up this case?"

"Correct." There was the sound of the door opening, and running towards them was Larry Butz.

"E-Edgy! You gotta save me! I'm innocent I tell you, innocent!" He grabbed Miles's suit and started sobbing.

"Get a hold of yourself Larry!" Miles yelled. Larry collected himself.

"Oops, Sorry Edgy." Miles just shook his head and turned to Diego.

"Any idea who the prosecutor is Diego?" Miles asked.

"Winston Payne. Age 52. I'd say he's the worst prosecutor they have currently, so you got a break." Miles just nodded. That's when the bailiff came in to get them.

"The trial is starting." The three of them went with the bailiff, and headed to the courtroom. When they got there, Larry sat at the defendants chair, and Miles and Diego went to the defendants table. On the other side, at the prosecutor table, was an older man with glasses. He was balding on the top of his head and was wearing a gray suit. Miles presumed that was Prosecutor Payne. Then, the sound of a gavel banging down sounded through the courtroom.

"Order! Order in the court! This is the trial of Larry Butz. Is the Prosecution ready to proceed?" The judge said.

"Yes your honor." The prosecutor said.

"Defense?"

"W-What?" Miles stammered, not prepared for the judge to talk to him.

"I asked if the defense was ready."

"Y-Yes your honor."

"As I understood it, Diego Armando was supposed to lead the defense." The judge said.

"Your honor, I decided to let Miles here lead the defense, because all defense attorneys need to start somewhere, though I will be here to help him out." Diego replied.

"Alright. Court is hereby in session for the murder trial of Mr. Larry Butz. Prosecutor Payne, if you would please."

"Yes, your honor. Ms. Cindy Stone was an internationally known model. She worked all around the world. She was dating Larry Butz, but it just so happened that she had quite a few sugar daddies. This is a possible motive for murder."

"Wait, Cindy was cheating on me?! How could she!" Larry said, obviously distressed. Prosecutor Payne continued.

"As you can see, the defendant is obviously distressed by this fact."

"Point taken. Please continue."

"Now the prosecution would like to present the murder weapon." Payne picked up a small golden statue, which had dried blood on top of it. "This is a statue of the thinker. The bloodstains have been tested and are indeed Ms. Cindy Stone's."

"The court accepts the evidence."

"The prosecution would now like to call its first witness to the stand."

An older man with a red dot in the middle of his head took the stand. He seemed a little too happy to be here.

"Witness, please state your name and occupation." The judge said.

"I am Frank Sahwit, and I am a newspaper salesman." The man said.

"Please tell us what you saw on the night of the murder." Prosecutor Payne said.

"Well, It was 1 PM., yes I'm quite sure of the time, and I was going door to door, selling newspapers, as that is my job, when I saw a man with strange hair, yes, that man right there, I'm sure of it. He had just walked out of the door of the apartment, and had left it open. Thinking it strange, I opened looked in through the door. And laying on the floor was a body! I was too frightened to go in. I tried to call the police with her phone, but it wouldn't work. So I went to the nearest public phone to call them."

"Why wasn't the phone in the apartment?" The judge asked.

"There happened to be a power outage at the time of the murder." Prosecutor Payne explained.

"Alright. Now, it's time for the defense's cross-examination. Defense."

"Y-Yes your Honor." Edgeworth stammered out.

"Are you ready to expose the lies in their testimony Miles?" Diego asked.

"Wait, He was lying?!"

"Of course! Unless you believe your client was guilty Miles..."

"What? No!"

"The dump out this cup of lies. Punching a hole through one lie leads to another. And another, and another. Soon, they're tangled in their own web of lies, and they can't get out. It's much like my addiction to coffee." He took a sip of coffee. "Drink one cup and you just can't stop."

Miles nodded and put a finger to his lip. Diego was right. There was something off about that testimony. That's when a thought struck him.

"So you say you saw the defendant leave the apartment at around 1 PM, is this correct?"

"Yes sir."

"Are you positive?"

"Of course!"

"That's impossible, Mr. Sahwit."

"W-What do you mean?"

Miles picked up a sheet of paper from the defendant stand.

"This is an autopsy report from the police department. It states "Death due to blow by blunt object, around
4 PM to 5 PM", but you just stated it happened around 1 PM!"

"That is strange Mr. Sahwit. Can you explain this contradiction?" The judge asked.

"Objection! Your honor, the defendant merely forgot the time." Payne screamed.

"I find that hard to believe with him admitting he was 'sure of it', now please explain this Mr. Sahwit.

"I, ummm, don't know, that is, v-very strange your honor." He was sweating profusely.

"Good job Miles! Now expose the other lies in his testimony!" Diego exclaimed.

"Yes sir. I'll do my best."
