Madelyn
Present Day
After an awkward exchange with Liam in the foyer I was able to break away to get ready for dinner.
We still hadn't discussed how all of this would work.
I really should've asked him when we were alone earlier, but I kinda of freaked out.
I hadn't been alone with him since the night he left for college.
"Maddie. Hurry up! My dad will be home soon!" Charlotte yelled from behind the door. I was showering in her room because it felt wrong to get ready anywhere else. All the parties and outings we'd gotten ready for together over the years, it was basically an unbreakable tradition at this point.
I finished up in the shower and headed out to get dressed.
Charlotte had ducked into her closet to scrounge up an outfit for tonight, and I started blow drying my hair.
The blowdryer was going and I was bent over trying to get the underside of my hair, so I didn't notice anyone come in.
When I flipped my hair back, I heard a groan from behind me.
Liam was standing behind me, his nice white button up now splattered with water from my hair.
"Oh my god I'm so sorry."
I turned so fast, I didn't notice my towel drop until it was too late.
I froze for a second too long.
But so did Liam.
"Fuck." Liam whispered under his breath, which broke me out of my spell.
"Turn around you dip shit!" I yelled quickly grabbing for my towel.
He snorted, but did as I asked.
"Not like it's anything I haven't seen before."
He muttered under his breath.
I stopped in my tracks, and looked up at him slowly, "What the fuck did you just say?"
"Nothing." He said, looking over her shoulder, "Can I turn around now or are you still naked?"
I huffed and wrapped my towel back around my body, "Yeah you can turn around." I said as I turned and leaned on the counter, staring to do my makeup in the mirror, "Why are you here anyway?"
He sighed and leaned against the door frame, "I thought we should talk about... uh... this." He said, pointing between the two of us.
I snorted and continued doing my eyeliner in the mirror, "Yeah we probably should. How much have you told your parents?"
"I said we reconnected back in June, but we started dating after the family Fourth of July party."
I nodded, "That it?"
He nodded and crossed his arms over his chest, "That's it."
"Ok well we kinda have to come up with more than just that. Like how long have we been officially boyfriend and girlfriend, what are some of the dates we've gone on, have we slept together yet?"
He let out a small laugh.
"What?"
"I doubt my parents will ask us if we've had sex yet."
I turned to face him, "No, they won't. But the more information we have, the less chance someone sees through our lie." I pointed at him with my eyeliner pencil, "It'll also help us believe it more. Make it feel more real and if we have an answer to every question, we'll always be prepared." I turned back to the mirror to continue, "Plus, Charlie might ask if we've had sex."
Liam was quiet for a while.
I turned to look at him, and he was looking back at me, his eyes intense and full of something unreadable. Then he spoke.
"We became official on August 2nd. Our first date was to go see the American Ballet Theatre perform Giselle, and we got dinner at Sushi Damo on W58th. Our second date we went to the Met and got hotdogs from cart in Central Park. Your favorite date though was when I took you to a cooking class and I burnt everything we made, and you thought it was so cute you let me fuck you that night."
I hadn't noticed before, but he was stepping closer that entire time and now he was only a few inches from me.
We stood there like that for a while.
I could feel the heat radiating off of his body. His shirt was tight around his strong arms and I could feel my heartbeat accelerate the longer he stood there.
I had forgotten how blue his eyes were. Charlotte and Charlie were the twins, but Liam
and Charlotte looked more alike. Both of them
Had inherited their mother's jet black hair, and their dad's piercing blue eyes.
After a bit, I nodded my head, backing away from him. If I didn't, I would probably stare at him all night, "Sounds good to me."
He stood in the same place, unmoving for a little longer.
When I looked over to him, his eyes were dark. But when he realized me looking, it went away.
He shook his head and offered me a halfhearted smile.
"I'll see you downstairs." He said as he backed out of the bathroom and headed for the door.
