Juniors and Seniors were free to go after the assembly. We were all asked to sign an attendance sheet before leaving the gym. Seniors were up first; I signed my name and went out to wait for Alice outside the building. She'd know where to find me.

As soon as I saw Alice, I started walking to the school parking lot.

"What was that about?" Alice whispered as soon as she'd caught up with me.

I frowned. "I'm not sure. What do you think?" Then I whispered, "What do you see?"

"I don't know. I can't see anything relevant. Maybe she's undecided. All I see are her plans for today. Go home, do chores. Nothing unusual. And it's not as clear yet since she's human and I am not familiar with her."

     I frowned.

"Maybe it's not that serious, you know? She could have recognized you from the mall or something and her reaction probably had nothing to do with you-know-what."

I know Alice could be right. I could be overreacting or imagining things. It's just that, our family has always been careful when it comes to our disguise. What if the human girl recognizing me posed a threat to our family? Would we need to move? We loved Forks. We weren't ready to move yet.

However, we do protect our privacy and we take it seriously. We even have the perfect backstory. Jasper and I pose as fraternal twins and we pretend that we are somewhat related to Esme and that we've been with her since we were very young. Then she met Carlisle. They adopted Emmett, Alice, and Edward. And me and Jasper.

All of us have the same flawless pale skin and honey gold eyes, but Jasper and I have the same blonde hair which made us passable as biologically related.

I kept my last name because, well, I was proud of being a Hale. I was proud of the family I was born into. I loved my human life. I lost everything human about me and I didn't want to lose my human name—Rosalie Lillian Hale.
Jasper didn't care as much so he took my last name without too much complain.

Carlisle let me keep my surname to ease some possible confusion from humans. Jasper and I having a different last name than our romantic partners, Alice and Emmett, was less confusing for the mortals as well.

Alice and I were intending to go shopping after school. She tried to convince me not to worry about the human girl and said we'd consult with our family when we get home.

"Edward will be at school tomorrow," Alice assured me. "We'll get answers then. Besides, I've been looking at her future and nothing has changed. Still nothing relevant to what you're worried about."

I nodded and pursed my lips, trying to hide my now bad mood.

As we were walking to the school parking lot, I saw a bunch of younger students—all boys—blocking my car. I immediately got defensive.

"What are they doing?" I hissed at Alice.

     "Relax, Rose. They're just admiring."

One of them nudged the others as he saw us behind them. None of them heard us approach. They all went pale as a vampire.

     "Hello, boys," Alice greeted them.

I glared at her. I walked to the driver's seat and got in. The younger boys' mouths fell open.

"Excuse us," Alice told them politely and got in the passenger seat.

I narrowed my eyes at them and started driving.

The drive to Seattle was quiet except for background music from the stereo. The silence was broken by Alice.
