"Friends?"
Paula extended her hand towards Near, a smile on her lips as she waited.
Near looked at her, then on the hand, and took it with his own small smile.
"Friends."

The soft music that came from a piano roused Paula from her sleep.
It wasn't that loud, but it caught her attention. She stood up and left her room and walked down the hallway of Wammy's House, the path being illuminated by the moon.
When she reached the music room, she pushed the door with a small amount of force, not wanting to disturb whoever is playing that wonderful melody. After a few seconds, the music stopped, and Paula feared that she got caught as her breath stopped for a while. When she heard the piano being manipulated once more, she released a silent sigh, thanking God for not being caught.
She pushed the door once more, peeking inside. What she saw was unexpected.
Near was sitting like a professional piano player, his hands dancing around the black and white keys as his eyes skim the sheets of paper in front of him. The sight was so unusual that Paula forgot that she was supposed to be hiding, and accidentally pushed the door wide open, interrupting the white-haired boy from playing and looked at her with surprise in his eyes.
"A-Ah!!! I-I'm sorry, Near! I...I didn't mean to...! I'm sorry!!!"
Near quickly recovered and looked at her, confused. "What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be asleep?"
"Uhmm... Well, I heard you playing, and I was woken up... so...yeah..."
"Oh? I'm sorry to interrupt your sleep, then." He stood up, closed the piano and grabbed the piano sheets from the stand, ready to leave.
"W-Wait!!"
"Hmm?"
"Well... you actually didn't interrupt me... I just want to know what's going on..."
"... ..."
"... ..."
"...And?"
"...ha? Ah... I... can you play it again? Please?"
"It is unfinished. I'm merely practicing it."
"So... you composed it?"
"Yes, but Mello helped me."
