Beer had a sweet smell when it was grimed down onto the floor by shoes. Shawn said he didn't smell it but you always insisted you could. It was sweet on the floor but it was even sweeter on his breath when he was leaning down whispering in your ear.

"Want another drink?"

Nodding, you looked up with a smile to provide a yes. He leaned around someone yelling for them to get you a drink, the vein in his neck looked nice. Before Shawn leaned back toward you, you felt your phone buzz in your hand against the empty glass you cupped it against.

"Who you texting?" Shawn asked as he leaned to the side trying to catch a peek.

You gawked before pressing the phone to your chest as your jaw quickly snapped up into a smile as you swayed away, playing with him.

"Oh," he grinned, "a guy?" Blushing you looked down texting the guy back. "Well," Shawn began as he took your new drink from someone and handed it to you, "when he's here I wanna meet him."

Taking the drink, Shawn's eye burned with contact. Nodding you agreed, but you knew it didn't matter and Shawn knew it too, that's why he had that stupid grin on his lips. Both of you knew no matter who you hung with at the bar or party, you'd always be leaving with him.

You both had never been just friends. It started out with the drunk arms around one another, and flirty comments. Eventually, it turned into the both of you sitting outside on his balcony talking until five in the morning drinking orange juice and Malibu, until it was just straight Malibu. Then it was both of you passing out on the couch together by accident, and then not by accident. His arm would drape around your shoulders as the both of you watched a random Netflix show in the middle of the party that was beginning to turn down. Sleepy and drunk the both of you would slowly daze in and out of sleep, or maybe it was just you, you never did see Shawn sleeping as you laid in his shoulder. You always assumed he was when his head would rest on yours.

"Let's just sleep here, like this," he'd whisper into your hair and you'd nod, of course, because that's all you wanted. He'd nuzzle you both into that big couch and you'd pass in and out as the talking at the part around you both would interlace with your dreams. You weren't sure what reality and fantasy were anymore. You'd heard your friends talking about the both of you, saying you looked sweet in his arm and he'd grumble for them to leave you alone.

Next, it was, 'Why don't you and I take the living room and let the couples have the beds?'

The living room floor of the cottage was still hard beneath the mounds of blankets that night, but the first time his soft lips touched yours, it certainly made up for it. He knew how to kiss - knew how to kiss you. However, you must have known how to kiss him too because the living room floor hadn't been the only thing that was hard on your body that night.

He was sweet with you. A little shit and a hell of a tease when around all your friends, but when it was the two of you alone he was good- good to you. He was slowly crawling over every inch and facet of your mind, but you didn't care. However, it was slowly driving you mad because the night of the kiss started a game between the both of you.

It had been two months since the kiss and from then on it was this damn game when you acted like you weren't playing.

During the day when none of your friends were around you seemed like a couple, no moves to play, but the night was different. You stood on a white chip, and him, he was certainly on black.

He was dark and looming. His hand always hovering over your body, guiding you through the shadows at parties and bars. His lips near your ear, tempting you to make that first move, but you never gave in. You were a queen and you'd protect the castle of your heart even if it meant texting knights in shining armour to protect you if needed.
