"Let's go, Anna!" I heard Niall say, knocking on the bathroom door.
My boyfriend was forcing me to go to an ugly Christmas sweater party at our friends house. "There is no way I'm leaving this house wearing this sweater."
"Come on!" he whined, "It'll be fun! Besides, I'm wearing the ugliest sweater you've ever seen!"
I sighed, brushing my light blonde hair out of my eyes. "Fine," I said, "but promise you won't make fun of me!"
"I promise!" he replied immediately. I knew that he wouldn't keep it but I opened the door anyways.
Niall was leaning against the wall, his feet crossed over each other and his shoulder pressed against the drywall. He was wearing the ugliest sweater I had ever seen in my entire life. I smiled knowing that I wouldn't be the only one wearing a bright red sweater with a giant reindeer on the front; a blinking red nose to finish it off.
I held my arms out, "Go ahead and make fun!"
Niall just grinned, "I dunno... I think you look pretty hot."
I hit his arm, "No, I don't."
His smile grew into something a lot more genuine. "You're right. You're never hot. You're always beautiful."
I smiled, looking down at the ground. He was always saying things like that to me and still, after three years of being together, and two years of being friends before that, I didn't know how to respond. I felt a weight on my shoulders and looked up to see Niall's face inches away from mine, his arm resting on my shoulders. "How about we get going, huh?"
I nodded and he pecked my lips, taking my hand in his and leading me out the door.
In the car, Niall was going all out and singing along with the Christmas carols. He always did. I just laughed and watched him as he belted out the lines to "Jingle Bell Rock".
"You can't sing," I said through laughs.
"I can, too!" Niall exclaimed. He let out a wobbling, lingering note. It was awful, a sound mixed between a walrus and a cat with its tail stuck in a door.
"Stop!" I cried, "You're going to make all of the glasses shatter in the world!"
"My singing is a gift!" He exclaimed.
I rolled my eyes. "Sure it is."
"Ah-ha! You finally admit it!" He took a hand off the wheel and pointed a finger at me.
"Yes, in an extremely sarcastic way." I replied without missing a beat.
He faked a pout as we pulled into the driveway. "Do I really have to go inside like this?" I whined, refering to the ugly sweater I was wearing.
"Yes," Niall replied, "And come on, it'll be loads of fun!"
I sighed and opened the door to the car. Looking down the street, I saw that no one was parked along the curb; there wasn't even another car in the driveway. "Are we early or something?" I asked.
Niall shrugged, "I dunno, let's go inside."
He took my hand and lead me to the door, where he didn't ring the door bell or even knock; he just reached for the doorknob and let himself in. I could tell the moment the door opened that there was no party. "Niall..." I trailed, "What are we doing here?"
He pulled me through the door and I saw the familiar setting that belong to our friends, Zoe and Louis, house. The picture frames on the walls that showed their faces and the comfy furniture. "What's going on?" I asked.
