The Rune in the Dark

Chapter One

Naoki sat in a tree watching a girl wonder about the in his forest a growl came from his throat and the the girl froze "What are you doing?" he asked curiously as the girl sat down under the tree he was in and started eating a fruit.

Naoki jumped out of the tree and landed in front of the girl he couched down one of his hands in front of him to keep him balanced the girl looked at him and he growled once more, she looked just like Akemi.

"My names Amara, I came from a village that was attacked by bandits. What are you doing here? Demons could eat you." Amara spoke.

"I am one, how do you know I won't eat you." Naoki said Amara studied him before answering, "You haven't eaten me yet." she said Naoki bared his teeth at her, "You won't eat me, will you." Amara whispered tears forming out of her green eyes, "Keh, maybe."

The green eyed girl busted into tears, "Uwa, don't do that, I won't eat you! J-just stop crying." Naoki said backing away.

Amara sniffed and slowly stopped "Really, okay. How old are you? I'm seventeen. What type of demon are you? Oh, can we travel together." She threw questions at Naoki sitting on her knees, the demon stared blankly at the girl before him.

Didn't we just meet?

"I'm eighteen, I guess and I'm an Elf-Dog." he muttered standing up, Amara doing the same, "That's cool... Uh what's you name?" she asked, Naoki looked her over starting at her raven colored hair then her cream colored skin and she was at least 5'8".

"Y-you look just like her!" he said, Amara cocked her head "Like who?" she asked puzzled Naoki looked away balling up his fist "No one. Look, the names Naoki, and if you want to travel with me you have to be able to keep up with me." he snapped, the girl nodded starting to walk towards the north. When she turned around finding that Naoki was gone, looking up she called out "Naoki?" she saw a flash of blue kimono dashing from tree branch to tree branch.

Amazing.

She ran trying to catch up with the demon, Amara soon found herself trapped in a deep lush tripping over a root the young girl fell and heard a wolf yowl, "Naoki!" She yelled trying to stand up but ended up falling again she groaned loudly, Amara had twisted her ankle.

Sitting up she pulled her legs up to her chest, while sitting she heard the wolf yowl once more but closer, "Well, well, well. Who do we have here." the young girl looked around but could not see past the dark shadows "Naoki?".

Amara stood up using the tree behind her, limping in the direction that she was suppose to be heading.

She then came across a field seeing the Elf-Dog sitting cross legged "Took ya." he muttered.

Amara could no longer hold her anger, "You stupid dog!" she yelled tripping once again she clutched her eyes shut waiting for the hard impact of the ground.

Only to find that it never came....
