“Mom I’m home.” I shut the door behind me. I just got back from the last day of school. This week has been busy, shuffling to get everything done and teachers getting their rooms cleaned up for summer vacation. Later tonight there’s a class bonfire on the beach to celebrate. I’m really excited, because all my friends are going and we get to go surfing. I live in Florida so I go surfing a lot, but I still get excited before every time I go. I like this guy named Hayes Grier, but he has a girlfriend named Kenzie Rose. Me and her used to be best friends, but when her and Hayes started dating we stopped hanging out.

I can smell brownies baking in the kitchen and it makes my mouth water. When I  get in the kitchen I see my mom looking at a cooking magazine. She has always been the family cook.

“Hey Mom.” She is so caught up in the magazine she doesn’t even move a muscle.

“Oh, Hi Taylor, Sorry I’m trying to find a recipe for something in here. How was your last day of school?” She is still looking down at the magazine and doesn’t even look at me. I wish I could tell her it was awesome, but that would be lying.

“Well, if you’d say getting pushed on the sidewalk, getting my books thrown from me, and my bestfriend hating me for liking her boyfriend even though she knows I’ve liked him longer than she has, I’d say pretty horrible. She doesn’t understand what it’s like to be bullied because she was the “cool kid” in her school.

“I’m so sorry honey, they shouldn’t do that to such an amazing girl like you. Maybe next year will be better.” Well she says that every year and it obviously doesn't .

“Not really I’m used to it anyways.”

“Yeah but that’s not right you see, you shouldn’t have to get used to something like that.” I wish she would just stop. Last time I told her about this stuff she called the school and I got picked on for that too.

“I’ll be in my room if you need me.”

My room is my place and that is the one thing i’m not going to let anyone ruin for me. I don’t even know if I should go to the bonfire anymore I’m tired of getting picked on. “Bzzzzzzz... Bzzzzzzz...” My phone goes off and I looked down to see who it was. I was pretty surprised to see the name “Hayes” on my screen. I answer after a few seconds so it doesn’t look like I was waiting for him to call me.

“Hey Kylieare you going to the bonfire tonight.” I wonder why he was calling me, why isn’t he talking to his girlfriend Kenzie?

“Umm... yeah I was thinking about it, Why?” Maybe he wants me to go.

“You should really go I need to talk to you about something and it should be face-to-face.” He sounded worried. Uh oh, I wonder what’s wrong.

“Is something wrong?”

“Well… no.... I just need to ask you something, anyway I gotta go my mom is making me clean my room.” I can see he was lying but I go along with it anyway.

“Okay see ya there.” I respond and hang up before he can say anything else.

For the rest of the time I got ready I listened to Taylor Swifts new album 1989. I was so excited to see what Hayes was going to say to me. I try to make myself look extra  beautiful, even though my mom says I’m already gorgeous. I want to wear something pretty but simple. I decide to wear a Tie-dye crop top with neon blue shorts with studs on the pockets and purple vans. I put a bikini under just in case we go surfing. Since I live in Florida it’s warm year round, especially with the bonfire tonight. My friend Riley Guttman is going to bring me. We have been friends since Kenzie decided me and her were done.
