It was 1:39am and I still waited on John to come home. By this time you know the food was cold. I sat on the couch with my silk robe on and heard keys jiggling. I hurriedly sat up and waited for the door to open. When it did, he stumbled in and my smile faded. Drunk. This motherfucker was drunk! When he looked up he gasped,"Whoa! You look like a hooker." I closed my robe and said,"You're drunk. I cooked dinner but I'll have to warm it up in the microwave because you stayed out again on our anniversary." I picked up the plates and he replied,"You're really not shit." He giggled and I kept tending to the food. He continued,"You're a total bitch that's never enough for me. I have no idea why we got married. That was a mistake and now Im stuck with you." He scoffed and the tears stung my eyes as I kept my back turned to him putting the food away instead of warming it up. He did this all the time. He would downgrade me and never apologize. But even if he did, it wouldn't matter. Little did he know he had already broken me. He yelled out," You can't even have kids! What a joke. You're a joke! Im glad we didn't have any because you would have made an awful deadbeat mom you black bitch! Why don't you just go die in a ditch?" I turned around and looked at him as he leaned over the couch watching me intently. I thought to myself, Now if I would've called him a saltine cracker I would've been racist. He continued, "You barely work," He replied, "You are nothing! Tara, my secretary, she looks better, she can have children, and she's intelligent. I cannot wait to marry her!" I walked into the guest room and locked the door behind me. He just never stopped making me feel like I was worthless. I listened to him call me a bitch over and over until he went silent. I fell asleep there and woke up checking my emails. My job promoted me to working from home. Great. Now more time on my hands and seeing him. Avoidance was the key at this point. I got up and brushed my teeth right when the doorbell sounded. I walked into the kitchen and saw a note on the table from John that stated: Plumber will be by soon for master bedroom sink. P.S don't embarrass me. I balled up the paper and tossed it in the trash and opened the door. Evan? His red ass was still light as I could remember. He looked as if he never even had a tan. My college sweetheart stood before me gorgeous as ever. He was my plumber?? He stood tall and cleared his throat looking down at me. I looked down at myself. Stupid! My robe was wide open! I didn't even close it or change my lingerie. He giggled and said, "P." I smiled and said,"Evan. Please come in. I didn't know you were a plumber." He sighed and said,'It's a side job. I own some laundromats downtown. Still running the family business. I heard you were married." I noded and said,"Yes I am actually what about you?" He shook his head and said,"Never found her. You have kids?" I shook my head and he said,"That's too bad you would have made an awesome mother." I rubbed my neck as I blushed and pointed in the direction of the master bedroom. I had to change out of this lingerie asap. The embarrassment already happened when I opened the front door. Kudos to me. I stalked to the guest bedroom and took off the robe. "Hey P do you have any measuring tape I can .... Evan stopped in his tracks at the guest bedroom door and I turned around and yelled,"Evan!" He shook his head and said,"Damn you are still fine." I gave a warning tone and he turned his back and said,"I need that tape ma." I quickly slid in some leggings and a regular nike shirt. He turned around once more and said,"You sleep in here?" He motioned to the unmade bed and I lied,"Only last night I had alot of work to do and my husband didn't get here til late." He nodded and followed me to the kitchen to the cupboards to get the tape. When he recieved it, he went back to the master bedroom to continue his work. I put on some coffee and cut on the tv while I got my laptop from the guest bedroom. I started my work as I sat on a stool waiting for the coffee to get done. The news popped on and there was John closing a new deal with the secretary on his arm. I scoffed and Evan came back into the kitchen saying,"Alright Im done." He looked at the tv and back to my face. "Is that him?" he questioned, "Smart man closed another deal. John Pierce is your husband P? But who is that female all over him?" I looked at him and got up to cut the coffee off stating,"The secretary." He nodded and said,"He knows you see this doesn't he?" Silence. I poured myself a cup of coffee and said,"He cannot wait to marry her so he says." Evan's face went straight to pittiness. I hated that look. I knew it all too well. "Does your family know any of this?" He questioned quietly. I shook my head and said,"They know he doesn't want me anymore. But I've had so many deaths I have had practice to deal with alot on my own." He stared at me and I dropped my head as he said,"You deserve better." I forced a smile and asked,"Did you want a coffee or .... he shook his head and said,"I have to get to work. I will catch you around though. Matter of fact, here." I watched as he took a pen from the countertop and wrote his number down on a napkin. I wrote mine down also and gave it to him saying,"Be careful out here okay? And thanks for the help. He'll pay you vis cash app at 4pm when he's off work." I opened the door for him and he nodded and left out. I shut the door behind him and decided to get back to work on my laptop right after I pay my husband a visit about this news bullshit with his secretary.
