It was my time. There's no doubt about that, but the way i went surprised many people. Ivar didn't tell anyone I wanted to be sacrificed. He instead walked away. I went to talk to Geir and kissed him for I know that would be the last time. People were partying that night as it was the day before we would move out to the woods. Everyone was getting drunk. I walked into the main hall where people were actually be civil, probably thinking about the war. Ivar sitting on the throne with Harald beside him. I walked up right before him. "Ivar lets go on a walk."
He nodded his head and got up with his crutch. We walked towards the woods where no one would be. He looked at me knowing it was time. I grabbed my sword and handed it to him. "Ivar please, you have to." Tears started falling from his eyes. I come closer to him and kiss him on the cheek. I grab his hand and place it on the hilt of the sword and my own tears started flowing out now.
"Alca, thank you for having faith in me." I backed away a little. I did a small smile at him and placed my forehead to his. I could hear his ragged breathing. "I will always love you." Next thing i know I felt a very very sharp pain through my stomach. I hunch over in pain. I start to cough. I look down to see the sword through me and then it being taken out of me. I start to fall but he catches me and falls instantly as well. "I'm so sorry Alca." I smile a little to this.
I place my hands on my bleeding stomach and then wipe some of my blood on his cheek. "Tell Geir I love him." "I will Alca, anything." Ivar starts to grab my heads and make me hold the sword. I start to cough a lot more and I feel liquids coming up. The pain still hurts but now it feels normal. My version becomes blurry. I then try to take my ring off but couldn't. He saw me struggling and took it off for me. "Give this to Ha.. "
The sentence wasn't completed
Ivar P.O.V.
"Give this to Ha.." "Alca to who." She doesn't say anything. I look at her, her eyes not moving, her lip separated. "ALCA!" No answer. Alca the Midgard serpent is dead. I can't leave her body here that would be disrespectful and she wouldn't go into Valhalla with anything.
It took a while but I finally dragged her to the main hall. I left her beside the hall where no one could see her. I walk into the main hall and everyone turns to look at me. Hvitserk is the first to say something. "Why are you covered in blood Ivar? " Tears are still coming out of my eyes, but i am not whimpering.
Harald looked at him seeing that he was upset and whipping his eyes on his shirt. Everyone notices that I am carrying Alca's sword. This caused everyone to stand up. "Ivar where is Alca?" I looked at Astrid and her eyes look shocked. I then turn to Hvitserk who is confused. I then looked at geir and started walking towards him.
It's silent and you can hear my steps loudly. "Geir.. I." "Ivar where is my mother." "She wanted me to tell you, she loves you." Geir then punched me in the face causing me to fall. I deserve it. He grabs the sword I dropped and walked out. "We need to give her a proper burial." Harald starts pacing around and looking so mad. "and Harald i think she wanted me to give this to Halfdan, but I know you will be the one seeing him tomorrow. " He walked over to me and grabbed the ring harshly.
"Let's just go bury her so she can go to Valhalla."
The next day
Many moments happened before the battle. Everyone remembering their finally moments before their maybe deaths.
Lagertha kissing the priest ready for her death. Hvitserk saying he has no regrets but having no children, but mad about the killing of Alca.
The battle ground is before everyone. They are all in place very to fight. Lagertha draws her sword signaling for Bjorn to fire the arrows. Everyone thinks about the moments before the battle. The scene playing out in their mind. These were their last actions before death. The arrows shoot off and the people run towards each other killing one another. Halfdan looked worried. Wouldn't she have been in the front, he keeps thinking inside his head. It didn't matter at this point. It was either kill or be killed so that's what Halfdan did. He ran while slashing people growing tired by the second but knew he has to keep going.
Halfdan looked around at the same time looking for her and his brother. His panting grows heavy. He starts to see a field with only himself on it. No one was there to hurt him, no one was there to kill. The field turns into sand. The wind blowing his hair. He feels alone wondering why his life became like this. He falls to his knees looking down and grabbing the sand. His runs through his fingers. Halfdan wants to cry right now but a hand reaches for his face and cups around his cheek. He looks up to the person in shock and staring back him was her. Alca smiles at him but then blows away like the sand. He tries to grab her but fails to do so.
He is pushed back into reality realizing he still needs to fight. He stands up and slashes the person coming behind him. He keeps questioning is this recalling the life I want?
Then he sees him, his brother. He starts to walk over to him and stands in front of him. For second nothing is said but Harald talks "I didn't want to kill you brother."
Halfdan then ask, "she is dead isn't she." Halfdan lowers his sword, knowing he would never kill his brother. Harald looked like he had a small ounce of regret in his eyes but that soon disappeared. Harald slashed his brother's throat causing Halfdan to fall to the ground. He kisses his ax "this is life." Harald comes over and kneels with him. Harald grabs the ring that Halfdan gave to Alca and placed it in his palm. "And this is death brother."
" I will see you in Valhalla," Harald says.
Halfdan falls completely to the ground only seeing sand before blacking out.
He awakens in a field and in front of him are two large gates. They are opening wide. He sits up wondering if this was the entrance to Valhalla. There was only one way to find out. He got up off the ground and started walking towards them. His feet were a little shaky but he somehow made it. He hesitates and even starts to laugh. Even in the afterlife he is thinking about her. He decided it's no or never and walks through the gate and a white light blinded him and he felt like his body was no more. The white lights fade into blackness. His back feels like he is on a bed.
He keeps his eyes closed but starts moving his body. His fingers moving over the many furs on the bed. He realizes he isn't wearing any clothing at all and starts to groan. He finally opens his eyes and sees he is in a a luxurious bed and in a big cabin. He looks to the left and sees a body there and is so shocked he almost fell of the bed. Her back was facing him and was also naked with a blanket covering her lower half.
"You finally have waken up." Her voice caught him off guard. It was hers.Alca rolls over and has a smirk on her face. Her dark hair is long and looks full and thick, not the thin hair he saw a month ago. Everything about her seemed better. She was thicker and had boobs and her cheeks puffed out with her smile. She looks just like she did when they first met.
Alca scoots closeting him and placed her hand in his cheek and he did the same. Their foreheads touched and Halfdan started laughing and crying. " I have missed you Alca." For once it was Alca who made the first move and the two of them started kissing. Passionately. " And I you."
Alca stood up and he just stared at her body. "Come on we have a feast to get to." He starts to climb out and sees the ring he gave her in the table next to the bed. They can be happy together now.
"Halfdan I love you."
Valhalla is really the greatest place on earth.
