"Where are you, Cora?! Come down here this instant!" screamed an urgent-sounding mom.
Oh no! I thought. "Coming! I'll be right down!"
I hopped out of bed, sprinted to the bathroom, brushed my teeth, and showered as fast as possible.
I dashed down the stairs and screamed, "WHAT!? What happened?!"
"Nothing happened. What are you talking about?" asked Mom.
"You were the one screaming from downstairs!" I answered.
She and Dad burst out in laughter as I stood bewildered.
"Sorry, Honey," she said between fits of giggles. "There's no emergency. It's 4 pm and you missed your flight for the sanctuary mission. That's why we sent Alyssa down instead."
"WHAT?!" Then, suddenly, everything went black and I woke up.
I jolted my eyes open, and sat up, breathing heavily.
I said to myself, "Thank God that was a dream!" I brushed my messy brown hair out of my face and looked out into the bright blue California sky where the sun was a shining yellow lemon. I glanced at the wall across me. Mom had told me to clean the chaos in my closet. I promised myself that I would clean it tonight.
Then, I freshened up and headed downstairs where I was met by my green parakeet, Kiwi, flying around the room. I walked into the kitchen and helped myself to some waffles drenched in maple syrup. My favorite breakfast is either waffles, pancakes, or toast. I would eat all of them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner If I could. After I gave myself a brain freeze with the berries and placing my plate into the sink, I walked over to the computer/office area. The spies, including myself, at the Bridgewood Spy Complex, or as most people know it, the Bridgewood Computer Company, are highly professional, and very serious. Most of the time anyway. My next mission will be at the animal sanctuary in San Francisco.
"Will Cora Davis please come to the central office? Cora Davis to the central office."
Everyone stopped and stared at me as I stood up and proceeded to the central office. This part of the day was always the most embarrassing. Most people would just ignore it by now but, I guess not everyone. Once I arrived, Mom and Dad, the Heads of the Complex, wrapped me up in a huge bear hug. Then, things became serious. Their faces morphed into grave ones. Dad gestured me to sit down, and they began to shatter the silence.
"Cora, honey, we have something to tell you," Mom began.
"What is it?" I responded.
"This information is in regards to your animal sanctuary mission. It was canceled because of the incoming storm on Monday."
"No. No. No. Nonono! NO! This can't be happening!"
"Well, the good news is that the storm gave us a new mission to give you."
"What is it?"
"The mission is in Paris. We have booked your ticket, and you will leave today. I'll send you the file this afternoon."
"Ok."
I walked over to my bedroom and prepared for my mission. Soon, it was afternoon. Mom entered the room and gave me the files, and I packed while reading over them. The rival was Anna Campbell. I gasped. I couldn't defeat her again. Last time I saw her was. . .horrifying. I couldn't go through it again. The file also says that I have to go to Bank ABC in Paris, France. I took a deep breath and left briskly. I wrote Mom and Dad a note to let them know that I left. I flew on Air France to the bank that Anna is trying to steal money from. WOOSH! I raced to the bank. Once I arrived, I pushed open the double doors. I heard footsteps pounding. I saw Anna in the distance. She stopped and stared. I whipped out the laser in my back pocket, and she did the same. I saw Sofie lingering behind her.
"Well, well, well, Cora Davis." She said, slyly.
"What do you want from me?" I replied, fiercely.
"What do I want? I want complete power over this bank!"
"Not if I can help it! What are you going to do to my sister?"
"Nothing. I am not doing anything at all. Why would you think that?"
"You're holding her hostage! Aren't you?"
"No, silly girl. She is my minion. I can tell her to do anything I want. I'll show you. Sofie, shoot your sister right now!"
We had a silent conversation before she obeyed. Little did Anna know, Sofie was spying on her and pretending to work with her. She was secretly trying to defeat her once and for all. Sofie shot a weak beam at me and I easily dodged it. I leaped into action.
Instantly, I lunged toward Anna whilst shooting laser beams as fast as possible toward her. She blocked all of my shots except one. It created a gash in her left arm. She stumbled, and I took the advantage. I tried to shoot her in the leg and trip her, but suddenly, the lights went out. Once the lights turned back on my eyes had to adjust. Anna nicked my leg instantly once she saw me. I stumbled and saw a sliver of red in my left leg. The blood wanted to slither out. I wanted to give up because I knew I might not make it.
In a flash, a light bulb in my head lit up. I would tell Sofie to take away Anna's laser. I would then blindfold her, lead the two of them to the police headquarters, and turn her in. She would never be able to hurt anyone again if she is found guilty.
My injury throbbed and ached; nevertheless, I stood up because I wasn't going to let this stop me.
"Sofie, take away her laser," I said, menacingly.
"You can't do that," Anna said.
"Yes, I can. Now, Sofie, take away her laser!" I responded.
Sofie walked over and pried it from Anna's clenched grip. I sauntered behind Anna and tied a blindfold over her eyes and covered her ears with headphones. I led the two of them to the police department.
"Bonjour! (Hello!)" I said.
"Prénom? (Name?)" The man answered.
"Cora Davis."
"Qu'est-ce qui ne va pas? (What's wrong?)"
"Ce criminel a été trouvé en train de voler dans la succursale ABC Bank-Paris et devrait être arrêté immédiatement! (This criminal was found stealing from the ABC Bank-Paris branch and should be stopped immediately!)"
"Suivez-moi. Voulez-vous que je parle en anglais? (Follow me. Do you want me to speak in English?)"
"Oui, s'il vous plaît.(Yes, please.)"
We followed the man into the interrogation room. The man whispered to the interrogator.
"Parlez-leur en Anglais. (Talk to them in English)" The man said.
"D'accord. (Okay)" The interrogator said back.
Soon, the man left, and we were alone with the interrogator, who said his name was Gabriel. Gabriel walked us through what we had to do, and he told us what would happen. Essentially, he would ask me questions about Anna and our connection. That would take about an hour. He would also ask about Anna's crimes, and finally, she would be issued into jail if found blameworthy, or deserving of blame, in court. The next few minutes were a blur of answering questions and signing papers. I had to journey home soon, for it was late. I had a ton of papers to sign, but I managed to stay awake. Time was passing as slowly as a sloth. We had to wait for a few days until court, so I called one of my friends in Paris, Emma Bisset, and we stayed at her house for a couple of days.
A few days later, it was time for court. The tall, sky-high ceilings and walls were decorated with murals and art. We won the case, Anna was sent to jail soon after, and we started our journey home. Our jetliner, or airplane, was delayed for three hours. We were able to book a hotel nearby for the night since it was about 1:45 am. Once we arrived back home, the entire complex threw us a huge party. Mom offered us freshly baked cookies with a delicious aroma. Sofie and I would've stayed up, but we were exhausted. We proceeded upstairs, and the moment my head touched my pillow, I was sound asleep. I woke up in the middle of the night and turned my table lamp on. The light emanated across the room. I looked around and saw my closet. I never did get around to cleaning it.
