CALIFORNIA'S POV
I tossed and turned in my bed that night trying to get some rest. But my brain was really busy right now.
Why did Carl get so mad over nothing? All I wanted to do was help him.. And when will he talk to me again? I'll try to apologize again tomorrow.No. I couldn't wait until the morning. I'll do it now.
I slid out of my bed and tiptoed across the cold cell block floor to Carl's sleeping place. It was dark.
"Carl?" I whispered. "Carl, it's California."
I searched through the darkness for him, but his bed was empty. I new he wasn't stupid enough to go outside the fence, so I didn't worry. I new where to look.CARL'S POV
I sat on the cement roof of the prison, gazing at the stars. I calmly rocked back and forth, thinking about pretty much life in general. It was moments like these that were really deep and depressing (especially when you are in an apocalypse,) and you knew you needed to not be alone but you wanted to be. Luckily, I got what I needed.
"Carl?" I heard California's voice coming from the latter that led up here.
"Hey," she stepped on to the roof and I got butterflies in my stomach, just as I always do when I see her. But no, I was mad, I couldn't think like that. Stop it.
"Hey," I looked away.
"We need to talk," she sighed.
Talk? Uh oh. Usually when a girl wants to talk, she means break up.
Shit.
I jumped up. "Cali, please forgive me! I shouldn't have gotten mad over nothing. I didn't mean to upset you!" I ranted quickly, fumbling with my hands. "Please don't break up with me!" I pleaded on.She stared at me in confusion for a moment and lightly chuckled. "Carl, where the hell did you get the idea that I was gonna break up with you?"
...So she wasn't going to? "I wasn't talking to you and I thought you would be mad..." I trailed off.
"Carl," she said gently, "Do you think I would kiss you right now if I was mad?"
"...But you haven't kissed m-" I was cut off by her wrapping her arms around my neck and pressing a soft kiss on my lips. My eyes widened in shock at first, but I soon moved my lips along to hers in perfect sync. She pulled away, slightly smiling at the ground, yet her hands were still laced around my neck.
"Carl, why did you get so upset with me?" She whispered.
"I didn't want you to get hurt. If you risked your life for me and ending up dying, I wouldn't be able to live with myself. You mean the world to me... I just, don't know what I would do without you. Please forgive me," I smiled weakly.
California caressed my cheek with her small hand, giving me shivers in the process.
"I forgive you. But Carl Grimes, if you are in trouble, I'm going to save your ass wether you like it or not." She smirked.
I sighed in relief and nodded my head.
"So... Is there any chance we could kiss again?" I questioned playfully and hopefully.
"I don't know, we might if you can catch me."
And with that, she jumped to the ladder and effortlessly slid down. I scrambled after her. I reached the bottom of the ladder, but when I looked around, she wasn't there.
"Cali?" I whispered, tip toeing down the dark hallway. "Cali."
All of a sudden, a tiny pair of thin hands covered my eyes from behind. I jumped, startled, and began to wriggle out if their grasp on my face.
California's giggles filled my ears as I squirmed around, trying to brake free.
She finally took her hands from my eyes and spun me around to plant her lips on mine.
"But I didn't catch you." I chuckled.
"Yea, but I caught you. Same thing."
She began to walk away towards the cell block, but I ran in front if her.
"That kiss was short though," I whined."It didn't count!"
Before she could respond, I snaked my hands around her waist and pulled her closer to me. I kissed her slowly, taking in everything about it. She removed my sheriff hat with her free hands and dropped it to the ground. She began to run her fingers through my hair, never pulling away from our kiss.
We both got do lost in it, that we didn't notice Daryl standing by.
"That's enough for tonight, lovebirds." His rough voice startled us. Cali and I broke away from each other quickly and began to blush like crazy.
"What the hell, Daryl?" California said, lightly punching him on the arm. "You can't just sneak up on is like that!"
"I can, and I did. Come on, it's time to get back to bed. If you want, you guys can cuddle or whatever, but don't try any of-" He swung his hands in the air trying to portray something. He waved them around, swatting at the air. "That. Remember, y'all are only 15." He finished.
Cali and I both giggled nervously. We all began to walk to the cells, laughing at Daryl.
"Oh, don't worry. He's not getting any of that for a long time." she smirk-laughed over at me.
For some reason, I felt slightly disappointed. She noticed it to and giggled.
When Daryl was looking away, she glides over closer to me and whispered in my ear. "Maybe not THAT long." she said with a playful smile creeping along her face.
A blush spread across my face as she pecked me on the cheek. We soon arrived to the cell block and she skipped ahead of me and Daryl and leaped into my cell block. I chuckled as I headed towards my room, waving to Daryl.
"Remember. No touchy." He smirked and walked away.
"Can't make any promises." I said and smiled under my breath as I entered my cell, Cali already laying down on my bed. She grinned like a little kid and motioned for me to come lay next to her.
I grabbed the blanket, laying it down over her and I slipped under the covers. We shifted around, trying to get comfortable, and finally we settled down.
I listened to her steady breathing as she laid her head on my chest cuddled up next to me. She was so warm and soft, and I pulled her in closer to me.
"You have a nice heartbeat," she giggled. "The noise is soothing." She yawned.
"Thanks." I laughed. I didn't know how to reply. "You... have a nice face." I observed.
She chuckled and squeezed me tighter.
"Gee, Carl, you're so romantic." She said playfully.
We laid in silence for a long time. Finally, her eyes were lightly shut, her even breathing bringing her body up and down. I pulled the covers over her shoulders, gently kissing her forehead.
As I pulled away, a small smile spread across her face. Her eyes remained closed.
"Hey Carl?" She whispered.
"Yea?"
"I love you."My heart almost jumped out of chest as I laid my head down on the pillow. I had been waiting to hear her say that for months.
"I love you too." I breathed, and that was the last thing I remembered before slowly shutting my eyes and drifting off to sleep.
