Secrets

Chapter 5

The earth was silent as the two figures ran through the forest.  The full moon hung above them, and lightning bugs blinked on and off.   The feeling of running was overwhelming as Emma felt her breath come in cloudy puffs.  They raced through the forest and leapt the river.   Emma brushed against him before trotting up the mountain.   She sat on a ledge and looked out at the ocean gleaming in the moonlight.

Killian stopped and stared at her.  Her eyes were closed, and the moonlight made her fur glow in a way that made her look like a specter.  He thought back to the day they had met. There had been no peace in her life.  She was hardened from surviving on her own with her outcast mother. Not that it mattered to him.    Emma looked back at him and those golden eyes pierced his heart striking him down to the very soul.  He walked to her side and she tucked her head under his chin. He had missed this when she had to leave.   If it hadn't been for knowing she was alive and coming back he would have surely died without her.  Emma looked down at the town lights shinning in the dark and snorted.

"Hard to believe such a small town caused so much grief." Emma sighed.

"What was running a kingdom easier?" joked Killian.

"Running the pack was, but the kingdom was sometimes a pain." laughed Emma.

"Tiny says we should have enough beans to return home soon."

"Home..." sighed Emma dreamily.

"The pack misses you terribly. They want to sail again." Killian chuckled.

"I want to sail again. To run again, with my friends...my family." Emma stated wistfully as she laid down.

"Soon, I promise Emma. Once Mist Haven has its queen we can sail away and never look back."

"We'll have to come back so Henry can see his family." Emma chastised.

"Of course, tell me Love, do you truly believe he will like me?"

"He loves you Killian. Whenever he sees you all he talks about is sailing the high seas and fighting monsters for days." Emma laughed.

"Well, what did you expect? You are raising a pirate's son after all."

"Yes well, perhaps in time we'll be raising two." Emma smiled suggestively.

"You want another?" Killian smirked.

" Well actually-" began Emma only to be silenced by a lone howl.

Killian jumped to his feet, "Ruby?"

Emma shook her head, "No she said she wasn't running early tonight."

Killian growled, "But she is supposed to be the only other wolf out here."

Emma growled and felt her hackles rise up, "We need to investigate, carefully."

Killian nodded and they quietly made their way down the mountain side. The call came again, and the pair increased their pace.  Another howl joined in and Emma's ears perked up. Killian paused as he listened as well.  Emma gave a happy yip and raced ahead. Killian raced after her retreating form.  The two busted through the foliage into a clearing where three wolves stood howling.  The wolves stopped and looked at the newcomers. Emma wagged her tail and jumped around in excitement.  A smaller female wolf raced forward and tackled her while the two males greeted Killian.

"What are you doing here?" asked Killian.

One of the males laughed, "Oh come on captain you think we could wait to see the Luna."

Emma was jumping from wolf to wolf in an excited frenzy of greetings. Killian chuckled at her behavior.

"Actually, it's nice to see you all Smeeth."

"Always a pleasure Alpha Killian."

Emma charged her mate and knocked Killian to the ground in a fit of laughter and excitement.  He chuckled as she pressed up against his side.  The she jumped forward and gave a long howl.  The others soon joined in the call.  Dropping her head, Emma raced into the forest with the other close behind.  Her smiler was brighter than it had ever been since leaving their world.

The Sun was just starting to rise when Emma and Killian snuck back on bored the Jolly Rodger.  They shifted back to their human forms and headed below to their bedroom.  Emma fell down onto the bed and for the first time felt truly relaxed.  Killian smiled at her from the doorframe.  

Emma smiled back at him, "Come here."

Killian quickly crossed the room and kissed her fully as he settled on the bed beside her.  Emma melted into the kiss and her hands wandered up and down his back.  He kissed along her jaw and down to her collar bone.

"Emma, I need you."

Emma softly kissed him, "I need you too."
