Brooklyn looked at me and said nothing but "Hey."

I started messing around with my pencil, acting like it was a skateboard "I talked to your ex in Math."

"Really? What did he say?"

"The dude like, loves, you."

"Well, too bad. I hate him."

I smirked "Good, the dude's a jerk."

"Oh, look, the bad boy thinks someone's a jerk! Shocker."

"And the good girl actually dated the jerk. An even bigger shocker."

Some guy in front of me turned around and asked me "Can you help me out? I forgot to do my History homework."

I forgot all the time, but I only said "Fine. I'll help you out."

Brooklyn looked at me like she was surprised.

Then I smirked "The door's over there."

Brooklyn rolled her eyes at the same time that the guy turned around. Looks like she's the only girl who couldn't stand me.

She asked "Why do you, always, have to be a jerk."

I leaned close to her face "It's in my blood, babe."

She leaned back at the same time I did. I sighed and stared as my pencil flicked across the room and hit the teacher in the back. The teacher, Mr. Jones, turned around.

I raised my hand slightly "My bad."

Mr. Jones gave me the evil eye "Cole Matter-"

"I know my name, sheesh."

I stood up, walked across the room-which made every girl EXCEPT Brooklyn swoon-and picked up the pencil.

Mr. Jones grabbed me by the back of my shirt, which was a little creepy "Girls, I know this isn't health or science or any of that, but this kind of boy should be locked in a cage."

I heard some girls say "I know, he's one sexy beast." and I heard another say "I'd wanna be in the cage with him."

Mr. Jones shook his head "He's the kind of guy who will knock you up then leave."

I pulled away from him, saying "Dude, I don't think it's legal to touch teenagers."

Making my way across the room, I sat in my seat. A few girls were looking at me and sighing with lust. I ignored them and found myself looking at Brooklyn.

She was the only one who didn't beg for my attention, but wanted me to ignore her. She seemed like the only one who I didn't affect. I studied her again.

Her shiny blond hair tumbled down her shoulder again, and her dark blue eyes focused on the board. For some reason, I wanted to brush her hair behind her ear and-

NO! God, no. No, no, no, nope. I could NOT be falling for her of all people. Yeah, I wasn't falling. I looked at the teacher, which I only did when I was nervous. I tried listening to his lesson about World War II but I kept zoning out. And, no, I was not thinking of Brooke.

I set my head down on the desk as I day dreamed of nothing. Yep, nothing. All I saw in my head was complete blackness. Weird, I know. But it was a lot quieter than having your own thoughts screaming at you all the time. My eyelids started getting heavy and I almost fell asleep until I heard an angel's voice.

Whoa, wait. Did I just say an ANGEL? Ugh, I'm going insane.

Brooklyn poked my shoulder "Cole, um...Don't fall asleep. I thought you'd like all this war stuff."

I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes "So you were thinking 'bout me, huh?"

"Oh, shut up."

"Shutting."

I started messing around with the pencil again, but was careful not to flick it across the room. I did not want another mini lesson about myself. Finally, I got bored and looked over at Brooklyn. Pfft, I'm just gonna call her Brooke. Anyways, she was paying attention and writing down notes. I took out a piece of notebook paper and my black pen.

I wrote down quickly Hi

When I finally got Brooke to at least look at the paper, she rolled her eyes. I thought she wasn't going to do anything but she wrote Hi?

What's up?

Pay attention to the teacher, idiot.

But that's no fun.

No one said it has to be fun.

Then, Mr. Jones walked over and took the paper. He read it quickly then smiled at Brooke. He glared at me then turned away.

Brooke looked at me and mouthed "Pay attention."

I rolled my eyes and flicked my pencil at Mr. Jones. As soon as it made contact with his back, I knew I was in trouble.

He swirled around, and I could've sworn that his eyes were turning red with anger "COLE!"

Yawning, I asked "Yes?"

"Three days detention."

I saw Brooklyn choke back a laugh when I said "Oohh, three days. I'm scared."

"Would you like to make it longer."

I tilted back in my chair "Nah, I'm good. I've got things to do. One of them includes annoying Miss Goodie Two Shoes over there."

I pointed my chin at Brooke, who, for some reason that I don't know, started blushing. After I winked at her, she made a confused face then turned away. That made me smirk.

Mr. Jones hovered over me with his arms crossed "Mr. Matter-"

I stood up so that I was taller than him "Mr. Jones..."

"Sit back down."

"But that's boring."

"Do I look like I care?"

"Do I look like I care about sitting down?"

"You should care about how mad your parent get when they find out you have two weeks worth of detention."

"Nah, I don't care."

Then one of the weirdest things happened. Brooke stood up, looking like she was regretting it and said "Sir, don't be so harsh. Cole's brain is not as...Um, complex, I guess, as ours. His mind works slowly so he has to say the first thing that comes to his head."

I scowled "Hey!"

Brooke looked at me and mouthed "I'm trying to help you, retard." and bit her lip.

Mr. Jones took a minute to think about it then smiled "Perhaps you're right. The principle has explained to me many times that Cole has ADHD and ODD so he acts impulsively."

Brooke nodded "Er, thanks."

Mr. Jones turned to me "You're lucky your girlfriend-"

Brooke and I both yelled "Girlfriend?!?" I felt my face getting warm and Brooke's face looked pretty red, too. Wait, I DON'T blush. Especially not because of Brooke. I sat down in my seat and smacked my own forehead, wondering what the hell was happening.
