After many months of annoyed waiting a peaceful day had arrived. A warm spring day a cool breeze intertwined with the air and the smell of freshly baked cookies. "How much longer mommy?" Sarah stood impatiently by her mothers side. "Not anymore than half an hour now sweetheart" explained Elizabeth as she set the fresh made cookies on the table. Sarah stomped around the kitchen kicking over any toys that layed in her path, picking up her brown teddy bear as she trampled through the mess. "Here honey have a cookie and settle down because throwing a tantrum won't speed time anymore faster," explained Elizabeth. "I just want it all to be over already!"cried Sarah
"Why don't you go play outside to make the time pass now that is safe for you to do such" Elizabeth kissed her daughter's forehead. Sarah grabbed her wooden hoop starting to make her way outside to a world she no longer knew. Th
e door unleashed a cool yet welcoming breeze that brushes Sarah face making the ribbons on her hat dance. She began to walk off the door way steps cautiously looking up at the clear blue sky, noticing that not one aircraft wasn't in sight. Sarah spent very little time outside for many months now, it was like exploring a new world.
The smell of fresh blooming flowers filled the air, the trees swayed in the wind, and the sky seemed so full of new possibilities. She began to relax knowing that all the roaring crashes from fighter planes were over for good. A bird flew overhead as she watched in amazement a glow in her eyes, it was the first bird in months that she'd seen in a year.
Sarah finally getting use to the calming atmosphere began running through the yard, she was finally felt her age of five years again. She had missed all the sounds and smells that telexed her so easily. Sarah had missed these days so much, but over all she missed someone very close to her heart.
Did his appearance look any different or has the way he thought of her changed? The most important question roaming her mind was would he even remember her? Sarah walked over to the huge oak tree that shadowed the yard laying beneath it, thinking about the unanswered questions in her thoughts.
Closing her eyes she imagined everything about him from what she remembered. His glistening brown eyes as they played games with one another. His short smooth darkened hair that shinned in the sunlight from when they went on their walks. That sharp scruffy beard that tickled her face as he gave her goodnight kisses. All these memories brought Sarah to realize how much she truly missed him.
Her vision blurred when she opened her eyes from the tears that filled them. Why did he have to leave and why for two years? Her mom had told Sarah many days that he was making their country proud with his job, but Sarah didn't care he already had a job here and he didn't need another one. She thought about how it all was about to be over soon, he would be back and never leave again.
Before she could start jumping through her hoop Sarah's heart started to race at the sound of a car door. Her eyes widened as she ran towards the kitchen door yelling, "Mommy mommy he is here hurry hurry!" Elizabeth appeared in the door trying to remove her dirty apron to reveal her navy dress beneath. Sarah stood in the middle of the graveled yard clutching her hood, her eyes wouldn't move from the back gate. The breeze swept up the dirt clinging to her white dress and black bow tied in the back, the tension in her body built with every passing second.
The back gate creaked open revealing a tall man dressed in uniform with smoothed down dark dark hair and golden brown eyes that sparkled more than ever before. "Daddy!" Sarah dropped her hoop running full speed towards her dad. His duffel bag dropped to the ground letting Sarah jump into his arms. She wrapped her small hands around his neck squeezing with all her might, finally he was there and he remembered her.
