"Oh, we're dancin' in my living room, and up come my fists
And I say I'm only playing, but the truth is this
That I've never seen a mouth that I would kill to kiss
And I'm terrified, but I can't resist
And I say

"Beautiful stranger, here you are in my arms and I know
That beautiful strangers only come along to do me wrong
And I hope, beautiful stranger, here you are in my arms
But I think it's finally, finally, finally, finally, finally safe
For me to fall"

Lexa comes to Clarke's apartment to pick her up the night of. She hasn't told Clarke anything about tonight other than she should wear something nice, and Clarke doesn't question it nor does she mind. She's just happy to be with her.

When Clarke opens the door, she has to take a second to collect herself. Lexa has chosen a grey, black and white plaid jumpsuit, with a belt that squeezes her waist and a golden necklace that falls just between her cleavage. Her hair is up, makeup done... She looks beautiful. And sexy. Very sexy.

Clarke herself had decided on a strapless black dress. It's simple, with sleeves that go down to her wrists. It hugs her body nicely, coming down to just above her knees. She had chosen a pair of red heels to add a splash of color. When Clarke meets Lexa's eyes, she sees that the woman is just as entranced as she is.

"You look lovely," Lexa says, holding out her arm. Clarke takes it, and the two of them begin making their way to the elevator.

"As do you."

Lexa gives Clarke an award-winning smile as they step into the elevator together, Lexa pressing the button for the ground level. The rumbling sound of the elevator is the only sound as they head down, and Clarke's mind wanders back to when they met, here in this small space.

Clarke can't think of another place she would rather be than here, beside Lexa.

The elevator shakes, violently enough that they both stumble, Clarke more so than Lexa. Lexa holds onto her protectively, keeping her upright. They look at each other, Clarke laughing nervously despite nearly getting knocked on her ass.

And then the elevator comes to a jerking stop.

They both cling to the wall and each other as it shakes and rattles, until it gets lodged. The door starts to open, revealing the wall between floors three and two, but it stops only a quarter of the way. When everything stills, an intense look of horror settles on Lexa's face.

The next forty-five minutes are spent trying to get out. They hit the call button, but nothing happens. They hit the emergency button, but nothing happens. Lexa even picks the lock of the panel with a hairpin and tries to put her engineering skills to use.

That doesn't work either.

Neither of them has service. Finally, they come to the realization that they're stuck here until someone comes to fix the elevator. All they can do is pray someone is on the other side, trying to fix the problem as quickly as possible.

After giving up, they both drop down onto the floor, huffing out aggravated breaths. Slowly, they turn their heads to look at one another. Lexa's brows are drawn together in concern, and Clarke is sure her expression mirrors Lexa's.

But then she starts laughing.

She just can't help it. She laughs so hard that Lexa's frown struggles to stay turned downward. But then she reminds herself where they are.

"What's funny?" Lexa asks when Clarke is still laughing a minute later. She looks around, trying to figure out what the joke is. Another minute or two goes by, and Clarke can't stop. Lexa's laugh is breathy as she says, "Stop laughing!"
