She fell in love with her

The morning spring air was always a comfort to have while heading to school. Even if High school was a different type of hell, it was always nice walking to it in spring and early summer. Besides, Mel could always spend time with her best friend (*Cough*totallynotcrush*cough*) Kyle!

She sighed, tightening her grip on her backpack straps before letting them go. The birds chirped around her, flying over head with the art of determination. New mother birds cared for their infants, while fathers went to attract more mates. She was careful to not step on any worms that had crawled out recently. It had showered rather hard yesterday night, and Mel didn't have the heart to accidently step on any. She knew she could put them aside, but she was running a little late as is. She knew crouching down and picking each one up would only lengthen her time to get to school, and her totally-not-cute best friend.

Her shoes squeaked against the concrete as she sped up slightly. She wanted to pass the street light before it turned red. She looked left and right before sprintimg across it. It turned red as soon as she stepped foot onto the pathway. She sighed, pushing a hand through her hair before continuing her normal walk towards an 8 hour hell.

The chatter and noise rose as she blended in with her fellow peers, heading towards the same destination as her. Like a hive mind, she fell in step with their speed and rythm. She was brought out of thought when an arm slung around her shoulder, throwing her off balance for a split of a moment. "Kyle!" She exclaimed, a smile immediatly tugging at her lips. She looked down at the shorter girl, who was grinning at her like her life depended on it. "Heya, Mel. How's my favourite girl doing?" She asked, giving the taller a nudge before letting her arm slip off of her shoulder.

"Eh, could be better. Really not excited for a dose of hell. Or history. Ms. Roosevelt is apperantly having us take a quiz on what we've learned so far. Includes stuff we didn't even learn. Thank god the internet exists." She was only... Stretching the truth a little. There are themes they haven't studied yet, that is true, but not that many. It shouldn't be a problem. "Oooh, I feel you girl, I feel you. Our German teacher is having us take a test today. Hopefully mein Deutsch wird ok genug sein." The smaller recieved a chuckle and gentle poke to her cheek. "You'll be great!" Mel beamed, smiling happily at the smaller.

Kyle could feel her cheeks heat up ever so slightly before she looked away. She quickly took Mel by her hand and tugged her fowards, walking past all their fellow peers. "Y'know, I've forgotten to ask you, how's it going with you and Calluuum~?" Her voice dipped into a teasing one, making Mel roll her eyes. Though, she did turn a slight shade of pink. "I've told you enough times that I'm just friends with him! Besides, he's a dick to other of my friends. Maybe a little better than Lance, sure, but not by much." Kyle laughed at that, knowing her tease was enough to send the girl on a tirade of a rant.

They both knew that Callum was a bit of a spoiled dick bag with two elefant ears, but they were kind enough not to constantly get bullshit thrown at them. Better than nothing, I suppose.
"Ahm... Kyle?" Mel's voice dipped into a more quiet and reserved one, which she hated, "Could we.. Um... Meet at lunch? Maybe outside of the library? I... Need to tell you something." The shorter gave the taller a rather questioning look, though nodded. "Yeah, sure. Better than staying stranded in that caféteria of ours."

Thoughts cascated through Kyle's head. What could Mel possibly want to talk about? Maybe she had something bad happen, and is too ashamed to tell it infront of others? She supposed that could be a possibility. She pushed the thoughts aside for now, and instead pulled her friend into a hug before departing from her to head to class. The thoughts never left, and they turned more and more about Mel. About her pretty eyes, her pretty hair, the way she laughs, talks, gets embarrassed and so forth. It was absolutely tooth rottening, and Kyle was pretty glad she could multitask, or she would've failed already.

By the time lunch rolled around, the shorter girl had such intense butterflies flapping around in her stomach, that she thought she swallowed a few whole, and that was the reason she felt so embarrassed, yet love sick. She knew she was only pushing the truth off, but hey, it's a pretty fun explanation, and it at least got her to cool her nerves.

She did a quick drop by the caféteria, saying hi to her friends and dropping her bag off before heading to the library. The butterflies started up again, pressing against her belly as nervousness seeped through her veins. Why was she so nervous? This is Mel. Her close friend. What could possible go wrong? Well... A lot of things, but Kyle'd rather not think about it at the moment.

When she got to the corridor with the library, she saw Mel. She sighed, a tense pull in her chest loosening as she quickened her pace. She didn't need to get Mel's attention, as she looked over as soon as she heard her footsteps. "So, Mel, what did you wanna talk about?" Kyle asked, stopping infront of her friend.
"Well... Ahm...." Heat traveled up Mel's neck and ears, feeling butterflies fill her stomach as sudden embarrasment took over her. She looked away from her friend, rubbing her arm. "I uh... Look, I'm.. I'm not good with this, so I'll be forward. I like you. I really, really like you, and- and I know you might not feel the same way, so I just- I don't know, I just wanted you to know? I know it may sound stupid, but you're kind, you're- you're sweet, you're beautiful, magnificent, funny, and I-" The rambling girl was cut off by her crush pulling her into a hug and pulling her down to a kiss.

"Yes, I want to go out with you, you goddamn idiot." Kyle laughed, the sweet sound filling the empty hallway. They were happy together.
