3 weeks later

"Okay, honey, now give me attitude," The photographer said, as I turned to get different angles. I gave him my attitude face and he nodded, snapping 6 more shots. "Yes, Kalissa! You're beautiful, baby!"

We did a few more and then I walked off the set to go to my dressing room. I was starting to love my new job. I don't know why I was so hesitant to it before.

I was making a more than fair paycheck, that I got to buy my own apartment and furniture all in 2 weeks. Besides ever since I became a new Essence model, I was getting way more offers from everywhere else.

I haven't been talking to August still ever since Trey's party but I guess it was better that way. I heard him and Lola were doing fine and getting closer. Me on the hand was spending more time with Trey than I ever expected I would.

He was such a sweetheart and always made feel like royalty. But I would be lying if I said August wasn't on my mind day and night. He was an asshole but I loved his ass.

"Kay, you were working it girl," Evette said coming in my dressing room. "Had them photographs all speechless and shit."

"Thanks, Vette," I said wiping off the boatload of makeup they put on me. "But I'm hungry. You tryna go grab something and chill at my house?"

"Hell yeah. I'm gonna go bring the car around while you get ready, okay?"

I nodded. "Alright."

She left and I continued getting changed. Once I had my hoodie, sweatpants, and Jordans on, I was ready to go. But out of nowhere, I made it just on time to throw up in the trash bin. It's been happening a lately and I don't why.

"Took you long enough," Evette said after I got in the car.

"My bad. I had to throw up for some reason," I said buckling up.

"Oh hell no, I know you not no anorexic ass model already. Kay I will beat your light skin ass," Evette threatened.

"No, E, this has been happening randomly for 2 weeks now. Maybe I got a bug?"

She paused as if she just realized something. "2 weeks, huh?"

I nodded. "Why?"

"Kay, when was the last time you had your period?"

I looked at her like she was crazy but slowly pieced together what she was getting at. "Evette, I know what you're thinking and no I'm not pregnant."

"How do you know?"

"Because I'm just not," I rolled my eyes getting annoyed.

"Okay, well, we'll just have to find out," She said turning into Rite-Aid."

"Evie what are you doing?"

"Getting a pregnancy test. Stay right here, I'll be back."

She ran in and I started to get nervous. I knew there was a huge possibility that I was pregnant because I was gaining weight, throwing up, and not getting my period for the last month.

And since I never had sex with anyone else but August, there was no doubt that he was the father.

Evette bought the pregnancy test and we picked up some Chinese on the way to my apartment.

"Okay, so it says here to pee on this pink part here," She said reading the box. "The results will be out in 10 minutes."

"How do we know that it's accurate?"

"My cousin always took this brand when she was pregnant and it came accurate every time. You know Keisha, right?"

"The one with seven kids?" I asked, twisting up my face.

"Yeah, girl, her. So you know this shit is accurate. Come on pee on it so we could find out."

I peed on it and placed it on the counter as me and Evette sat on the bathroom floor, waiting for the results.

"I guess it's that fuck boy's baby, isn't it?" Evette asked. I nodded.

"Unfortunately," I sighed, rocking slowly.

"You gonna tell him it comes out positive?"

"I mean I have to, Evie. It's his and I don't wanna keep him from his child, regardless of our situation."

She nodded in understanding. "I'm still gonna fuck him up for being a fuck boy but it's for the baby's sake that we have to get along."

We waited a little more and the results were in. Evette picked it up first, reading it.

"Well?" I asked, as she slowly made eye contact with me.

"It's positive, Kay."

---

August's doorbell rang and I stood back, still shitting bricks to tell him the news. I had to get over with it though because if I waited too long, I'd pussy out and never tell him.

He answered the door shortly wearing nothing but sweatpants. He looked surprised to see me but never cracked a smile.

"Wassup?" He said dryly, giving me a head nod.

"Hey...I was wondering if we could talk for a moment," I said softly. He looked at me up and down before moving to the side to let me in. I walked in the living room to see Lola watching tv in nothing but his shirt on.

"Babe, could give us a second please?" August asked her.

"Sure," She scoffed eyeing me with an attitude. I rolled my eyes as she swished her ass up the stairs. Then August and I took a seat on opposite couches.

"So what's going on?" He asked, not making eye contact with me.

"I just came to let you know...that..." I paused, nervous as hell.

"That...?" He pushed, looking impatient.

"That I'm pregnant," I spat out, feeling relieved.

He looked dumbfounded and surprised. "By who?"

"By who?" I repeated, looking at him like he was stupid. "By you, August."

He chuckled, shaking his head. "Damn, I coulda sworn you said by me."

"That's what I did say, the fuck is wrong with that?" I asked, already catching on to his bullshit.

"You been chilling with Trey all this time and you expect me to believe that that baby is mine? Thats bullshit Kalissa," He said, sitting up.

"Trey is just my friend and you are the only one I've ever had sex with...in my whole life," I admitted. "What reason do I have to lie about something like that?"

"Shit, I'm getting bigger and making more money, how I know you not just tryna get some?"

I shook my head in disbelief. "August, believe me, I don't need your money, okay? In fact if I never told you about this baby, me and the baby would be just fine without you. So don't sit there and say I'm trying to get your money because quite frankly I don't need anything you have. What you need to do ask the hoe upstairs what she wants from you."

I stood up snatching my purse and heading to the door.

"Oh yeah and one more thing, I am gonna have this baby and love it and take care of it with or without you because I am not gonna argue with you about something that I knew is true. And something your stubborn, petty ass know is true too."

With that, I stormed out, slamming his door. At least he knows now.
