author's note ; I am aware that my grammar and punctuation may not be perfect, it's not horrible but it could be better. If you are going to be negative don't waste my time reading I just wanted to share my book with people(:
I know this isn't the best but I do have plans for this story, just really tired tonight!!
-----------------------------
There I was, Anna Smith, sixteen years old, brown hair, green eyes, and skin kissed by the sun. I lived a cautious life. Probably to cautious for anybody's comfort. In the event of my parents divorce, my mother took it upon herself to rip me from my Californian get away and move me to what I assumed the earthly version of hell was. A small but obviously "ghetto" city in the small state of Alabama.
To my humor the weather reflected my mood, dark and dreary. I would have been perfectly fine curling up in a ball and reading my book but my mother had other intentions.
"Anna, there is a store right down the road will you please, for the last time, go get my cigarettes?" she begged.
After refusing several times I finally gave in. Her habit disgusted me. In an attempt to look somewhat presentable I jumped in a pair of pink shorts and a black cami. Afterall, who could I possibly see? I didn't know anybody from Adam here, just as well, they didn't know me.
*Ding*
The bell jingled as I opened the door and obviously it had jingled one to many times that particular day, the cashier rolled his eyes at the sound but managed to greet me, "can I help you?" once the tv lost his attention and I recovered it, his eyes danced over me. he gave a crooked grin, "well, well, you must be new around here."
I sarcastically looked at the guy and my messy bun flopped around on the top of my head as I responded, "well we got ourselves a real nancy drew right here!"
Maybe I shouldn't have been so bitchy, but I decided to shoot him down before he actually tried to come onto me.
At that moment the door opened and the cashier's face had a new amused look plastered across it, "Aww shit! Look what the cat done dragged in! Wha's up man, how's it goin'?" the cashier slumped back as if I wasn't standing in line, annoyed, I decided to get a drink. I walked to the back of the store without even the slightest glance at the new customer, but when I heard his voice, chills crept up my spine. his voice was smooth, yet so deep and he made the southern accent sound so good.
My curiosity got the best of me and I let my eyes fall upon his frame; tall, muscular but thin, a tan as even as mine, and making the assumption he could feel my eyes on him he turned and our eyes met. His eyes were so deep brown they were almost black, he had this mystery to him, then his sly smile. I knew from there this boy was absolutely no good, but I was ready to stray from safe. I returned the smile and made my way back to the counter.
"What can I do for ya, my boy?" asked the cashier. As I approached the line my phone vibrated with a text from my mother asking me to find a grocery store and pick up a few necessities. I heard the boy say he needed two cigars and a pack of Newports, "go figure" I thought to myself. After he payed he hung around while I got what I needed, it caught me by surprise when the cashier asked for my I.D. but then he told me not to worry about it. Having not the slightest idea where a grocery store was I asked the cashier to point me in the direction but before he could respond the other customer interrupted him, "I can show you, a girl like you shouldn't be wandering around a place like this with no sense of direction, my name is John but everybody calls me Lock." At first I was skeptical whether or not to trust this character, but that was what compelled me to accept his offer.
Outside the gas station I noticed his car, it was far from what I had expected. He drove a black chrysler. He followed me back to my house so I could drop off my car and ride with him. On the ride he asked me where I was from and what struck my mother to move to a place like this from a place like that. I explained to the best of my ability that my mother had lost her mind due to the divorce and she wanted to show me new places with new people. He laughed at this, "and she chose to bring you here?" I didn't understand his question, it didn't seem to bad. No, it was not near as nice as the town we came from but I was warming up to this town, or perhaps I was just warming up to him...
I couldn't exactly like the place since I had only met two people and been to one place but, I couldn't dislike it either.
The grocery store was small and cute, it wasn't complicated to find what I needed like i was expecting it to be. Lock seemed very interested in my story, I felt like I was talking to much about myself and not giving him the opportunity to tell me anything about his self. Oddly, when I asked him what his story was he just shrugged it away and said he didn't have much of a story. This confused me, he looked as if he would know things that would surprise others, and I couldn't help but notice the looks he got and the amount of respect people showed towards him. I'm not much of one to badger somebody when they obviously don't wanna talk about something but my mind had been made up and I was going to hear his story!
