The rain was heavy and the wind was strong. I could hear the roaring thunder through the walls and see the gashing lightning brighten up the dark, soulless sky. I sat in my red arm chair starring out the window, wondering if there was anything out there; anything beneath the thick, grey clouds and crashing rain.
Every few minutes the thunder would scream so loud that my body would awaken itself all over again. My heart beat would go into a trance and my breathing would stop for just a single second before everything went back to normal.
The rain kept pouring down like a never-ending avalanche and the howling of the wind rattled my windows like an earthquake. “BOOM,” my little brother, Tyler, decides to shout as he jumps out behind the old, wooden lounge room door. My skeleton jumps out of my skin and I cut short of breath. “How dare you!” I yelled, in a state of frustration and pure terror. The thunder crashed once again and Tyler’s face welled up with fear, I could see he was frightened.
I pick him up and cuddle him within my lanky arms, like I would to a new-born pup. I begin walking up the stairs towards my bedroom, when a shadow caught my eye, someone in a black hoodie opening the back door. My throat chocked up as my heart began pounding beneath my cage of bones more rapidly than ever before. A struck of horror entered Tyler’s face as he leaped out of my arms and ran towards his room. I gasp for what might be my last breath of air.
The door handle jiggled and slowly turned left, making an eerie, screeching sound. I looked blankly at the door, my legs wobbled like jelly and I couldn’t move as though I was paralysed. Mum came out from Tyler’s room and looked down at me in fear. “What’s that behind you Elle?” she whispered. As I slowly glanced behind, a hot breath escaped down my spine. A knife jabbed into my back and the blood soaked my pyjama top. I didn’t scream, nor did I move. The horror placed in my mind as everything went into slow motion. Every second felt like hours, draining my energy like a Dementor. A blood curdling scream cut me of my daze, “ELLE!” my mother shrieked. My vision began to blur as I slipped away, leaving me in a pale pit of white.
“Elle can you hear me?” an all too familiar voice spoke softly through my ears. “Elle, darling?” I couldn’t see anything, than it hit me like speeding car, I was in heaven.
