The average winter here in Australia was the type of winter that everyone contradicted with a love and hate relationship. It was the type to force you to breath into your hands, making them clammy and cold, only to repeat the process a few minutes passing because cold had taken over again. You love the way it looked with the snow on the ground and the smell of Jack Frost’s delicate touch and it makes you want to lock the senses in a jar. Then again, as your face numbs, your hands cringe and a shudder of chills is sent down your spine, all you long for are warm covers or the sensation of a long gone summer sun.

Ciara shuddered, as the cold wind whipped past her face. She didn’t know what she was doing walking in a deserted night, with a thick layer of snow underneath her and the air just as thick…with cold.

It wasn’t her fault, her parents – Mr. & Mrs. Brown – had insisted her to stay after dinner, but time had always slipped out her hand and now she regretted staying there at all.

Once again, she quivered but kept her pace up.

Just wait till I get home…the warmth….  She thought.

Ciara’s destination came into view and she sighed with relief. Finally.

Her house was cradled in the beauty of the mountainside standing like a beautiful stone dwelling. A line of trees and shrubs grew in a curve, like an arm reaching out to embrace the view of the hillside and the vast swimming pool, whose water reflected the azure of the skies and rippled in the breeze. Ciara was from a wealthy family, her parents have vast variety of businesses – Ciara had her own company which her father had gifted for her 21st birthday. She smiled at thought, only a few people in this world had the gratitude of parents’ love, and she was one of the lucky ones.

She quickly stepped inside, locking the door behind her and sighed from the pleasure of warmth that brushed past her face.

Ciara looked at her grand fireplace in the hall and admired the hot red flames; their constant dancing was calming her nerves. She had trudged through the snow, or, for a better word, the frozen hell, and now basked in the warmth in the cozy living room. Bitter cold existed behind the closed door; and now, as she looked, there seemed to be frozen icicles hanging from the gutters. To her, it seemed two sides on a coin; the first, the wet, miserable weather outside where only snow falling in dizzying speed existed. And in here, where one instantly felt as if they had stepped in a warm bath.

Now this is just divine.  She thought.

*Knock. Knock*

Ciara groaned “Who the heck is here…so late at night?….Scoundrel-” mumbling some more incoherent curses at the person outside of her house, she made her way to the door glancing at the clock on her way.

11:30pm

Her perfectly arched brows morphed into a frown. Who could it be? She wondered.
