Gray Pt.1 ~ Sleep

This is set during Tenrou island, with some obvious changes like Gray's mark and characters being/ not being there. Enjoy~

"Natsu wait!" You threw up a wall of water and stuck your arm out.

the dragonslayer hadn't seen Happy and Lily passing in front of Gray who had also sent an ice attack, before he sent a wave of flames their way.

you ran in front of them in the nick of time and the heat came at you at an alarming rate. the flames licked up your arm and neck, stretching down to your side and almost completely down half your body, stopping around your mid thigh. a harsh coldness pierced your back, almost creating a combat to the flames.

the ice had landed on your shoulder blade, spreading to your entire back and down both arms ending at the wrists. it rose up your neck and down past your lower back ending just below your butt.

luckily you were able to look away in time, shielding your face from the attacks, however the pain you felt now left you unable to scream or even move staying paralysed in the same spot. behind you, gray stood, his fighting stance dropped and he ran to protect the two exceeds, oblivious to you getting hit.

you could hear the sizzle of your water wall, but you continued to spend magic power to make sure they were ok. all that mattered was their safety.

the scales on natsu's face and body retracted while he stared on in horror at what he had done. other members of fairy tail saw the explosion of light and rushed to the scene.

a large patch of tenroujima island was now left burnt to a crisp. gray quickly let the two cats out of his grasp as he finally registered what happened, the mark of the devil retreating into nothingness.

the splash of the water hitting the floor temporarily distracted you as you now registered that your magic power was fading. you couldn't even begin to understand the pain in your body.

your legs gave out as you hit the floor with a dull thud, the sky spinning into darkness. gray just then looked to the scene. neither boy could make it to your almost completely singed body. the ice and fire mage couldn't move a muscle, as if time slowed down.

you weren't breathing and only twitched, barely alive. neither reacted, no motion just pure shock. training had gone too far. you weren't entirely unconscious, but slowly fading. Lucy, having seen the commotion came upon the clearing, some of the surrounding trees. she shrieked which snapped both natsu and gray out of their stupors.

Lucy tripped over herself, tears welling up as she after what seemed like an eternity made it to her friend and guildmate.

"no, no, what happened?" the celestial wizard half shouted, looking up at the two of her teammates while fresh tears left tracks down her pink cheeks.

"we couldn't see her, a-and she protected them. it wasn't his fault i was careless." gray squeezed his hands into fists, angry at himself more than anything.

natsu didn't answer, only staring at his own hands in fear. how come he couldn't control himself? he should've seen them. all of them. now there was a chance she couldn't recover. feeling anger creep up his body and lodge itself in his throat, the pink haired boy bolted away from everyone, tearing through the forest to nowhere in particular.

gray fell to his knees, still in shock. you were the only one who had seen both boys going full out at each other, natsu with his scales and gray his black mark. it scared you, but you put that aside along with any regard for your own safety.

makarov soon made his way after some difficulty from the terrain. lucy pulled you to her lap, brushing your hair back and continuing to cry. erza, gajeel, and laxus who had all arrived with the master, surveyed the area.
