It didn't matter with the futile attempts that everyone wanted to take in order to save themselves. But in the world of heroes and monsters, there was no such thing as luck. The Jericho family knew that all too well.
In the years that followed the Civil War, Charles Jericho found an artifact that would curse every member of his family to falling into darkness. He didn't know what it was about the artifact that had cursed his family, but it was enough to make every single generation nearly face extinction. Decades passed and the entry into a new century, and there was no solution for what was happening to the Jericho family. It seemed as if there was nothing that the family could do in order to protect themselves.
Lyra Jericho knew that when she would hit the age of sixteen, she was going to face the curse that engulfed her ancestors and was going to drag her into the dirt. There was a difference between her and the rest of her family, and that was the fact that she was raised in a time where she had the intelligence to do something about what was going on with her and her family. But she didn't have the resources in order to save herself, which only made her feel as if she was supposed to give in to the darkness, allow it to swallow her whole and throw her into the void.
But then came a Spider who believed that he had what it took to save the girl from herself.
