Another day has passed. And another. And another. And today is finally the day.
It's my senior year at Lerner High. I've waited for this day for as long as I can remember. Finally an upperclassmen and finally on top.
I get up and walk groggily twards the shower When I see my reflection in the mirror that belonged to my great grandpa. I don't look any different than the day before but something definitely feels different. Maybe I'm just crazy.
Mom is calling for me as I race down the stairs. "You don't want to be late on the first day" she hollers.
My sister sits at the table as I walk in. She utters some sarcastic remark about my hair but I'm too distracted to notice. Why do I feel this way. I make my way to the coffee maker.
"You're going to stop growing in you keep drinking that." Mom says without even turning from the stove. "Nobody what's a short basketball player."
I return the coffee cup and grab some orange juice and eggs that my mom left for me.
Maybe if I keep telling myself everything will be okay it will actually happen.
I grab my keys and rush out to my black 2005 Chevy Impala. "Please start." I whisper to myself as I turn the key. It does. Maybe today won't be as bad as I thought. I honk the horn as a pull to the curb in front of my best friend, Link's house. We made a deal in middle school that the first one to get a car would drive the other to school everyday so we didn't have to walk anymore.
"Archer Dude! Are you ready to kick some ass on the courts after school today?" He yells as he climbs in.
"Dude, I don't know. Something feels off today."
