"Madeline? Wake up sweetie. You don't want to be late your first day on the job!" The strong, caring voice of my father wakes me up.
"I'm coming!" I call back to him before peeling back the bedsheets and sitting up.
I yawn and stretch my arms a few times before finally getting off my bed. After turning on the light, I take my pajamas off and open my walk-in closet to grab the new Midnight Blue dress I bought special just for today.
It has a professional look to it, which suites my new job at Lerant Publishing. I was hired a few weeks ago as Secretary. My dad figured it would be a great job to have while I get through university, but I don't know of any other college kid working at a major company. I guess that's a perk of having a Governor as a Dad.
After slipping the dress on, I go into my bathroom and attempt to curl my dark hair. I apply a bit of red lipstick and mascara then slide into my black heels. I look in the mirror a final time before grabbing my purse and leaving my room.
I walk down the wide hallway of my father's penthouse and into the kitchen. My father is already sitting at the table reading the newspaper, taking a few sips of coffee in between reads. He smiles at me and I smile back before pouring myself a bowl of cereal, pretending to listen to him saying something about politics.
We leave the house at the same time, going in different directions. I get in my black Jaguar and start down the road to Lerant.
I've never been super close to my Dad, I just know that since Mom died he has had struggled. I didn't really know much of my Mom because she died when I was young. In fact, I can't even remember really anything about her. Just from what I've seen in pictures, she seemed nice.
I pull into the parking garage across from Lerant and step out of my car. I grab my purse and lock the door before starting towards my first real job.
After opening the doors to the office, I am immediately greeted by smiling faces and many handshakes. A woman who looks to be in her thirties leads me to a large office where she tells me to wait.
A few minutes later a tall, older man extends his hand and introduces himself as Michael Lerant. I shake his hand and he leads me into his office where he tells me what he expects of me in this position.
"Here at my company, I like to keep things pretty simple. As secretary, you'll be doing minor tasks such as answering phone calls regarding our work, scheduling appointments, and organizing meetings."
I smile. "That sounds easy enough. I'm just want to thank you so much for this oppurtunity."
He nods. "Your father speaks very highly of you, so I know I can count on you to be a great Secretary. My son, Ian, will show you to your desk." He calls Ian in over the intercom. Moments later, a tall, young guy with light brown hair and a very-well fitting suit steps in.
I thank Mr. Lerant a few more times before following Ian out of his father's office.
"So your desk is here." He pats on a large wooden desk with all sorts of office supplies on it. "If you need anything, my office is right over there." He points into another room.
"Thank you so much." I say.
He smiles at me. "You're welcome. By the way, you look very nice." He says.
I can feel my cheeks turning red. "Th-thanks." I manage through a smile. He just cheekily laughs and walks on.
I take a seat at my new desk and begin organizing the supplies into drawers. On the desk there are multiple pens, binders, and notepads. Each labeled with Lerant's logo. There is a sheet of paper with all my information regarding passwords and logins. I turn on the computer and login with the information before me. I sign in to my new work email and already have four messages, all of which are just welcomes from the company and upcoming events I need to document. I get straight to work putting events in the monthly calendar.

After 3 boring phone calls,
an annoyed reader, and an email from my father, lunch couldn't have come any sooner. I step into the lounge where I find a few women drinking coffee and chatting. I pour myself a lemonade and take a seat, pulling out my phone. A few moments later I notice the room suddenly got empty. The door opens and a tall, dark haired guy walks in. He moves past me without so much of a glance. He is wearing a black button up shirt and dark trousers. I notice a little scruff of a beard on his face and dark brown eyes, but quickly avert my eyes as I see him turn my way.
"So you're new here?" I hear a soft accented voice say.
"Yeah.." I reply as he turns back to the counter and pours himself a drink.
"What's your name?" He asks, turning back towards me.
"Madeline." I say, a little set back by the tattoo visible on his forearm. "What's yours?" I return, curious.
"My name's Zayn." He says, taking a seat beside me.
