It was three days since the goat mauling's, one day since his father's disappearance.Sitting on the farm manor roof, Sebastian Del Cinco watched as the sun grew high and began to drop low. He cradled his father's rifle as if it was the only thing that would keep him safe.
His mother, Maria, had been hearing strange howls over the past week and now his father was gone. Seb was all that was left to defend the manor and his mother.
The police wouldn't help, no one would help; no one believed their story. "The Chupacabra came, the Chupacabra hunted, the Chupacabra took its' prey." Sebastian's mother repeated the words to the youthful officer taking her statement.
As the sun left and the moon took its place, Sebastian began to nod his head. He was slowly drifting off when a bright blue light shook him awake. Seb had to cover his eyes as the light swallowed him. The light was coming from the goat pen. 'This is it.' Sebastian whispered to himself.
He grabbed the rifle and slid down the ladder, running after the blue light. It was illuminating the field in flashes, pulsing on and off.
Sebastian jumped over the goat pen fence as the light once again disappeared. He pulled the rifle up to his shoulders as he hid behind the goat shed waiting for the light to return. He could see the blue presence slowly creeping up towards him and felt the heat of the light.
Running out from behind the shed, he aimed the barrel of the rifle at the centre of the field. At the end of the barrel stood a man in a black trench coat. On his head he wore what looked like a Spartan helmet with glowing red eyes that pierced the night. In his hand he held a gun. The blue light was emanating from the Spartan's gun and then drawing back into it.
"Who are you?" Sebastian asked, the rifle shaking in his hand.
The man continued with the lightgun. "Me? I'm no one. Go back inside, be with your parents and forget you ever saw me." He had a strange accent that Seb couldn't place. It was harsh like Russian or German, but Seb could tell it wasn't either.
The man tried to walk off with his gun leading him. Sebastian raised the gun again and fired a solitary shot, wincing as the rifle jammed in his shoulder.
Sebastian watched as the mysterious man's gun fell from his hand smoking. The man stared at the busted gun without saying a word.
"I'll ask again. Who are-," The man put his hand up silencing Sebastian.
"Do you have any idea what you've just done kid?" He asked, no trace of emotion. Sebastian stared down at the smoking gun on the ground.
"What was that thing?"
"Plan A." He said with no explanation. "Now I'm going to have to go ahead with plan B." He walked to the edge of the field. Sebastian fired a second shot near the man's feet. He turned with a sigh. "What do you want, kid?"
"I want my father back."
"Your father?"
"I know you did something to him. Where is he?"
"I don't know where your father is, friend." He turned to walk again.
"What do you know about the Chupacabra?" He suddenly stopped and turned again.
"The what?"
"The Chupacabra... It's a story; they say it's a creature that kills goats and then drains their blood." He went red at how foolish it sounded. "It's just a story..."
"It drains their blood?" The man was completely serious now.
"It's just a story."
The man ignored him. "Show me."
