Mia POV
School bored me to the point of falling asleep. I got home feeling dead and had trouble keeping my head up. After sinking into the couch, I heard the door slam. Jay was acting very upset lately and I had absolutely no clue why. I sighed and got up, time for me to be the mom. I knocked on his door gently and softly asked, "Jake can I come in?" Jay was only his nickname, I prefer the name Jake anyways.
"I guess," Jay snarled, and I could almost hear his eyes rolling. I opened the door and walked in to sit on his bed. Jay's walls are still blue from ten years ago and his bedspread was pitch black. He seemed annoyed that I was on his bed, but where else was I supposed to sit? On the floor next to his pile of dirty clothes or on top of the fifty dishes that he was too lazy to take into the kitchen? "So what do you want?" Jay asked after a few minutes of awkward silence.
"Is there something bothering you?" I asked, hoping that he'll tell me and not just blow me off like he usually did. Jay is the type of person who holds all of his emotions in and any moment he seems like he will burst. Just like a bubble popping with the slightest touch.
"No, now leave," he ordered. I didn't budge, instead I leaned deeper into his bed.
"I'm not leaving until you tell me what's wrong, I can be here all day," I told him.
"No you can't, you have to go to work in two hours," He smirked catching my lie. I lifted my eyebrows and crossed my arms over my chest.
"You have been acting strange ever since Liam came over a few nights ago, I really think you should tell me if something is botherin-" I was cut off.
"Liam! Liam bothers me! Now get out!" I blinked at Jay's little outburst. His face was red and his eyes were wide.
"What's wrong with Liam?" I asked, feeling, completely and utterally confused. How would Jay even know Liam before that dinner?
He threw his hands up in the air and walked out slamming me into his room alone. Then I heard the front door slam and I knew that he was gone. I let out a sigh and picked up his dishes and stuck them in the washer, then I snatch all his dirty clothes and squashed them into the washing machiene. Sometimes it bothers me that I have to do all the house work around here, and all the mothering stuff. But the I remember that without my mom's job we would be on the streets holding up a homeless sign.
I missed my mom, even though she's only been gone for six days. Tomorrow she will be home, and Jay will talk to her. He always does. But I think that whenever I clean his room up he is in a better mood, so that is exactly what I did. I vacuumed Jay's room and tried to wipe the gunk off that has seemed to form around his walls and bed stand. I dusted his lamp and changed the light bulb, because it had burned out. I got some glass cleaner and scrubbed his mirror and window. Then while I was rumaging around and cleaning stuff up under his bed I found something that made me go light headed. Marijuana.

I didn't know whether I should scream or cry. I set it down quickly and walked right over to Emma's house. I didn't even knock before walking in, when her mom said hi to me I only waved slightly and kept walking to Em's room. I felt as though I was going to have a panick attack, my sweet little baby brother, the one that I still go into his room while he is sleeping and kiss his forehead, smokes?
"Hey babe!" Emma greated me happily, she was laying on her pink bed with her ipad out. When I didn't reply she got worried. "Mia?" She asked, her eyebrows furrowing together.
I had trouble finding my voice but when I did I could only stammer out, "Marijuana."
"What?" She demanded. She took me by the shoulders and shock me, "What are you talking about?"
I took a few deep breaths and finally was able to tell her what had happened. I tried to hold back my tears, but they forced there way out. I started shaking harder and harder. And eventually I blacked out.
"Babe?" Emma cried, slapping my cheeks. "Oh no please don't be dead." I would have laughed at that comment if this wasn't such a serious situation.
I opened my eyes after about thirty more seconds and told her I was fine, "Can you come over and help me figure out what I should do?" I asked, suddenly feeling nervous that her mom would hear our conversation. What would she think if she know that Jay was using an illegal drug? And at the age of fifteen? What would happen if she called the cops? Could Jay go to jail for this? My mind swam through different scenarios.
"Okay," she said, pulling me up from the floor. My head was pounding and my blood was rushing. "Let's go." she put my arm around her shoulder and we walked out.
