So this is what it feels like, impending loneliness. The four falls that surround me are so cold. Nothing is with me, I’m all alone. Days faded into weeks. The only light I have it from the small window above me. I blue the dirty blanket tighter around me. Why is everything so cold?‘It’s just your heart, isolation does that to you’
“Shut up. Shut up. Shut up!” I cover my ears rocking back and forward.
‘Don’t act like covering your ears will stop me. I’ll be with you always.’ Isolation has caused me to go insane. I’m hearing voices. I run-up to the door slamming my fists onto it.
“Can’t you just let me go already! I’ve done nothing to you! I-I-I can’t take it anymore!” Tears start rolling down my face.
My lips start to quiver. “I was fourteen when you took me. I must be twenty by now,” I glace to the wall of lines. “Twenty! Can’t you see my family wants nothing to do with me? They’ve given up! So let me go! I beg of you.”
I begin to cry falling to the floor. When will I die, when will this suffering end?
-------------------------------------------------
The crackling of the fire calms me as I flick through the pages of a book. Kidnapped? Aren’t books so unrealistic? Setting the book down I run towards the kitchen. The smell of cinnamon fills my nose.
“Dad! Can I help?” A tall man with my bright green eyes looks down at me.
“Of course you can sweety, while I make dessert will you make dinner?” I nod and start to get started
Sometime later I hear a boy bowl down the hall into the kitchen striking me over. I laugh fluffing up his brown hair.
“Oscar! What did I tell you about running in the kitchen?” A beautiful woman with ivory skin, black hair and brown eyes yells.
“It’s ok mama, he was in no danger.” I was lucky enough to inherit her black hair and ivory skin.
Sometime later after dinner and dessert, we were all on the couch. Dad and Oscar were on the couch watching football while I was continuing to read the book. I didn’t notice Mama had gone to answer the door when suddenly there was a loud blood-curdling scream. I looked over and mum was on the floor bleeding from her head.“Mama!” I rush over to her Ignoring my father’s protests and take off my jumper putting pressure on her head. Tears rush down my face. I look up to someone wearing a mask they are looking down at me. Before I know it I’m grabbed by the hair and pulled out the door. I scream and scream but father just stood there, my brother behind him just looking at me with regret. Coward.
------------------I wake up in a heap of sweat. I wish I was still with them. I hope Mamas alright and that Oscar has grown into a fine younger man. I look around and this box I’ve called my room for the past 6 years. I have nothing but a blanket to sleep on and a toilet with basin. A tray of bread, carrots and a bottle of water is in the corner of the cell. I see he’s fed me. In all these years I’ve still not seen him since that horrid night. He leaves food only when I’m sleeping. I wall over to the tray and begin to slowly eat. Today is the day. I just cannot handle this pain any longer.
‘This pain will be carried with you. This won’t stop it. It’ll stop you. It’ll be carried with you from life to life’
“You know I don’t believe that shit. I just want this pain to be over.” I grab the blanket and tie it to the bar on the window. It’s not long enough but it’ll have to do. I tie the nouse. I take one last look around my room and notice a mouse? I let go of the blanket and go towards the mouse.
“Where did you come from little guy?” The mouse looks up at me nose moving in all different directions. I put my hand out but he runs away. Skurring down a mouse hole. I’ve never noticed that before. Looking into it I see a light. The mouse suddenly appears. Causing me to jump up.
“Shit little guy” I whisper. Trying again, I put my hand out. He sniffs it before slowly stepping onto my hand. This is the most happiness I’ve felt in a long time. I pat him before stretching out give him a slice of my leftover bread.
I’ve been playing with my new found companion for some time now. This little mouse may have saved me for a little longer.
“So little guy, what should I call you?” He looks up at me with that twitching nose and I can’t help but smile.
“Hello? Is someone there?” I don’t think my heads snapped to that wall that fast.
“Hello?” I speak out.
“Hello? Yes someone else is here, Thank you.” He praises. I look to the mouse and he looks up to me.
