Varian nearly stumbled over the rug and fell as he searched for you through your home.

"(Y/n)?? (Y/n)??"

His heart was pounding as his calls became more frantic each second. He couldn't find you anywhere. He was meant to pick you up for a surprise date but you never answered the door. He knew you had no other plans tonight so he assumed you hadn't heard him knock and entered your home. But now he panicked when he couldn't find you anywhere. Every room he searched was empty, dark, almost lifeless.

Varian suddenly ceased every movement and held his breath when he heard it. The tiniest, faintest cry of your voice. He listened quietly and waited to hear it again. His head whipped towards the back door when he heard a muffled sob once more. He sprinted to the door and wrenched it open, hurrying outside as he called your name again.

"(Y/n)? (Y/n), where are you?!"

He whirled around at the speed of light when he heard you croak out a tired, "here."

You were sitting on the cold, wet ground, your knees hugged to your chest and your back rested against the wall. Tears streamed down your face and your eyes were bloodshot red.

Varian audibly gasped in horror when he saw your sorrowful state. He hurriedly crouched beside you and placed a hand on your cheek, turning your face so he could see you.

You tried to wipe away the tears but they wouldn't stop.

"Oh, darling, what's wrong? Did something happen?"

You gave a weak nod before bursting into tears once more. Varian felt tears pooling in the corners of his eyes as he watched you break down. He couldn't stand seeing you like this. The sight was enough to break his heart.

He quickly pulled you into a tight, warm embrace. He had a hand cradling the back of your head as you sobbed into his chest, his other arm wrapped around your middle, holding you as close as possible. He kissed the top of your head and tried to calm you down, but you just couldn't.

Your hands were balled into fists as you clutched the material of his shirt. You let out all your choked cries and wails. Varian combed his fingers through your hair in attempts to sooth your pain. He whispered sweet nothings in your ear as he kissed your temple repeatedly.

After what felt like hours of weeping, you finally managed to control your breathing. You were silent as you clung to Varian. He never let you go. He traced patterns on your back with his fingertips as he slightly rocked you guys side to side. Both of your legs were numb from sitting on your knees, but you didn't have the courage to move yet. You were scared of breaking again. You didn't want to cry anymore tonight. You just wanted to stay in Varian's loving arms for as long as you possibly could.

But, alas, you had to pee.

You slowly let go and drew back, hugging your arms around yourself while you looked to the ground. Varian cupped your face in his hands, gently wiping away the tear stains with his thumbs. He gazed into your eyes with concern as he slowly asked, "Do you wanna talk about it?"

You shook your head as your lips quivered.

"That's okay," he said before kissing your forehead. "I'm always here for you. If and when you ever want to talk, I'm ready to listen."

You looked up at him and he smiled sweetly.

"I love you, (Y/n). So, so much."

You responded by leaning in and capturing his lips in a short, soft kiss. It didn't last long, but you poured all your emotions into it, letting him know just how grateful you were to have him here.

"Please, can you come to bed with me? I-I just want to sleep and forget about everything" You asked as soon as you pulled away, worried he might say no as soon as the words left your mouth. But Varian only pecked your lips once more and helped you stand up.

"Of course, I will. Anything for you, my love."

Varian entered the room with a glass full of water just as you were snuggling under your covers.

"Here," he said as he handed you the cup. "You should drink. No doubt you're dehydrated with a massive headache."

You wanted to tear up right there. You were so lucky to have Varian in your life. He cared for you like no one else and made your life so much happier. You drank half the glass before setting it on your nightstand. Varian got under the covers next to you and immediately wrapped his arms around you. You cuddled further in his arms and buried your head into his neck, letting out a deep sigh of peace, and relief. He kissed your forehead and whispered his goodnight.

You did the same.

And you slept peacefully, knowing that he was there right beside you.

He was always there for you.
