It was just a tiny seed in the galaxy's continium.
A Resont was born, who'd been assigned the blue pearl. She was orange and petite like a new born tiger except with darker coloured stripes matching her tone perfectly. This petite new born was me, and to be fair I looked like most resonts had when I was born.
"We were born on mars; we were said to be these creatures with no stripes before earth ended. But after it did people changed and adapted to survive. We went into four categories: the Resont, The Aneon, the Asura, and the Lunar. Each category was separated by their colours and were each given different water to drink, water was made differently from pearls by they are melted and filtered and somehow the colours are changed for each of our categories, although now it's called moon essence. Here on mars we found pearls or so the elders told us, we had no clear liquid we could drink like 'water' so we got our much needed supplies through other means..moon essence" I said finally ending my assignment and sitting down.
"Well done Allura" Said my teacher passing me a golden stamp.
"This reminds me of the grades the earthlings used to get with letters" I quickly stuttered"ahh yes but remember the assignment is over, ok? Everyone pack up schools over" Replied my professor in a stern but light voice.
We weren't allowed to discuss things like this unless it was a specific assignment, even then going into deeper detail was forbidden. It was what we'd learned all our lives so why would we question it?
"Allura wait" my professor told me.
I sat down and gulped.
"what did you mean by 'or so the elders had told us'?" he questioned me.
"I just meant we've never actually had any proof that earth ended."i said slipping into a moment of silence, while slipping down my chair.
"Those aren't rules that are meant to be questioned Allura"
"not like we question anything anyway, maybe the entire universe was better off having overthinkers" I muttered.
"I heard you, but you're dismissed" he said.
I left school thinking why we had this rule. I entered my home, slipped my orange shoes off and went inside. We didn't have uniform like the earthlings had once. What a strange object to have, I thought. Most of the names for everything remotely linked to earthlings had been changed. Why?
"I'd better stop before someone hears or reads me." I whispered, Resonts could read minds. It would be an unfair advantage if we had the Aneons job.
"What was that?" my mother said from the kitchen
I jumped and quickly replied, "nothing."I headed to the kitchen where she stood on a ladder changing the solar powered bulb, I really wished they could of come up with another name when they invented that. "Do we have any solar moon?" I asked opening the fridge only to reveal we had no bubbling drinks whatsoever.
My mother looked at me, with the look that said you need to do something for your brother..how did her gaze show that? Because I read her mind. I looked at her and telepathically replied 'no' .
She then went on and said "Pass your brother some moon melt as you're going upstairs."My mother, the type to do a mans job that is how the earthlings phrased it and yet not the person to give my brother moon melt even though he had most likely asked for it 2 hours ago "so you can't even get him some moon melt or tell him to go get it himself?" she looked at me, and I'd caught what I'd said.
Her long, straight orange hair which reached just below her back shook with her head while her green emerald like eyes searched my face. It was like staring at a dragon. Her green emerald eyes were a strange feature to find on a Resont, I thought, which meant she hardly fitted into our category as well as the Lunar and Asura category which wasn't a bad thing necessarily, it just meant she was different. Some people were slightly afraid of her since she had "updated herself" more than them, which is just a posher way of saying she had adapted more than the rest of us which meant I had aswell.
I took the moon melt and left the kitchen.
"Were you pondering about the earthlings again?" My father asked. I shivered and looked back to see him sitting down on the dark, orange couch.
"Ok, I'm done" said my mother climbing down, giving me a chance to escape my father's question.
"I'll be upstairs." I said, walking up the sky like blue stairs.
"Allura" my father said.
"ok, fine maybe a little but only because we were put to do an assignment Shelly can tell you."
They gazed at each other.
I looked at the violet stairs It was one of the only things we were allowed to have that wasn't orange, just to show that we accepted the other main groups too,it was also my only escape from the conversation I could feel nearing, I walked up quickly I could feel their gaze on me, "I took the moon melt!"I shouted behind me, I walked down the padded floor and into my brothers room.
"Moon melt for the baby" I said noticing my brother was playing games on the old PS49.
"I asked for this 3 hours ago" he said.
"knew it" I shook my head and jumped on the bed, sitting on it.
"And I rarely get this, I just want to look better than the other Resonts and Lunars this year" he said, his dark brown eyes piercing into my soul. I patted his curly orange hair, "I'll let you have my PS51." I said.
"Really?" he said, his smile as wide as the sun in width.
"Yeah, come get it when you're done talking to" I looked at the phone Aleon, "Aleon" I said finishing my sentence, Ander Aleon, my best friend. "Aleon huh? probably giving you tips on how to get bullied" I said staring at the phone.
"Really Allura?" Answered Aleon.
"Yup" I said exiting the room.
Shelly came out from our room and looked at me. I stated back fiercely.
"Shush"
"didn't say anything" she said, following me into our room with a mischievous smirk glued on her face, did she have something to tell me?
"door shut" I said.
She shut the door almost instantly, already anticipating what I was going to say, and getting ready to mimick me,which she did.
"we may be second best to the Aneon but if we were to get caught-" she said, getting cut off by me.
"we were told to be second to the aneon but truly we were the huffle puffs from the Harry Potter books we weren't allowed to have, but I had them 'illegally' as they'd say" I said, pulling out a few movies and books which were either based on humans or contained humans in them.
I had gone upstairs to think about my choices. I was deprived of many choices because of the fact I was a Resont, and wasn't allowed to do anything that the other groups could do: the Aneon were to become mayors and judges, while the Lunar were to become writers or astronauts. The Resonts were often in politics..politics used to be important to earthlings..it isn't now.Yet here I was browsing through movies and books we weren't allowed to own.
"You should really be studying you know? Final exams are coming up and you need a good score, an incredibly good score to receive qualifications to become a writer up on the moon" said Shelly.
"Right, you mean the one I did early as moon writers have to go to the moon so it takes longer for them to start?" I said.
"oh right, so unfair" she said shaking her head.
I laughed and put the books back in gently, as if I were hiding delicate jewels.
"Did Emelia forget about the drinks?" said Shelly, looking at her chrono, otherwise known as a watch.
"Oh you too huh?" I said sitting on the bed.
"What do you mean me too?" she said.
"Never mind, you know you can call her 'mom' now right? Or at least 'Em', I mean she basically raised you" I replied. I knew this conversation was always hard for her; she'd been holding on to the fond memories of her parents for as long as I could remember, never letting her parents or her feelings go but instead letting them grow and fester deep within her like a surreal dream she'd been living in, and she never denied it,she just thought it better to look after other people before herself, which I used to do often too."yeah I just.." she paused
I knew she was gonna say she missed them so I moved beside her
"I know" I said then let her lay her head on my shoulder.
"you want a snack too?" I asked to cheer her up.
She put on a smile and said "yeah why not?"
"mom" I shouted, she laughed and fell on her pink flowered bed spread.
"yeah?" my mother finally answered.
"never mind" I said Shelly laughed more, I know I asked her but it would quite frankly take a few hours.
Shelly got up and opened the door pointing out as if she were gesturing for us to go somewhere.
"huh?" I said
She pointed out again,
"what?" I said
"let's go get it ourselves" she finally blurted out,i understood her, it was just funny to tease her.
"ok" I said "you could've just said, thought you'd gone mute for a second there" I said
"funny" she nodded while heading down the furry stairs, her orange hair waving against her blue eyes, eyes the only different coloured thing we could have.
"seriously though do you wanna become a mime when you're older?"
I asked.
She stared at me blankly, dead in the eye.
"haha" I laughed "ok, ok" I followed her down we both stopped and stared at each other we looked directly in the kitchen, no way,
"bro" my brother, technically our brother.
"hi guys" he said.
"you're early" we said
"oh you know you missed me" he said.
"Miles, you're home" my mother hugged him, my brother was meant to come home from military training at 6:00 It was 3:34.
I didn't understand why, we didn't need Jobs I guess he just got a thrill and extra money from it, we got a salary weekly for doing nothing. After earth ended the elders thought a healthier planet was needed, and most jobs contributed to pollution, which is now known as a death sentence.
"I know you guys missed me" he said.
Shelly hugged him.
"why are you home early? And Where's Micheal?" I asked.
"oh so you prefer him to me?" he said.
"no" I hugged him.
"welcome home sweetie" our mom said.
"Micheal decided to stay longer until the proper time" he said.
It's hard to say that I preferred one brother to the other, Micheal, I preferred Micheal.
But a strange thing happened that night, Micheal didn't come home.
We sat at the dining table, silence covered the room.
"pass the meat please" Shelly said.
We had to only have red foods, but there were also neutral foods we could have, foods that were not any of our primary colours such as brown, although meat was originally red, but I don't know how that worked.
We went upstairs after dinner, all of us worried Micheal was in an accident. Me and shelly went to our room.
"Allura when do you think Micheal is coming home?" asked Shelly
"I don't-" I got cut off by the sound of my brothers voice in the study.
The voices were secreting through the gap at the bottom of the door so I took shelly's arm and took her to the door of the study.
"no, are you joking?" my brother asked.
"rest assured I don't do this joke thing you speak of"
"He did that? What am I meant to say to my family?" my brother asked loading the person on the other end with questions.
"look simply clarify and say your brothers been shot and he died simple" it was a woman's voice, a lot of women joined the army since the war.
"But he didn't"
"He will" she replied
"w-" I stuttered my ears were deceiving me no doubt.
I looked at Shelly, she looked at me, then we looked at my little brother who had snuck up behind up and gasped, my arm pushing the door open slightly.
Shelly pulled me back. It was too late.
