Chapter 20

(The next day)

Sonic and Shadow were driving in Sonic's blue mustang. They had been driving for 2 hours and they hadn't really talked. They were just listening to the radio.

Shadow had been thinking of Sonic said to him yesterday and what Scourge said to him. He was confused. 'I feel a connection with Sonic. He makes my heart race and says the kindest things to me. Even Scourge never made me feel that way, not like this.' Shadow thought as he put a hand to his heart.

But then, a question popped into his head. "Hey Sonic?"

"Yeah?"

"You said that Tails and I were the only ones that know you're gay. So does that mean your parent don't know?" Shadow asked.

Sonic stayed silent, the sighed. "No, they don't."

"Oh, then do they know about me?" Shadow asked.

"I just told them that you were a very good friend that just got out of a nasty relationship. They don't know that you're gay either." Sonic explained.

"Okay." Shadow replied.

Sonic looked at Shadow and then looked back to the road. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you the full story Shadow."

"It's fine, it's none of my business What relationship you have with your family. Really, I'm not upset with you."

"No, I mean that...I was planning on coming out to my parents and I wanted you with me. As just a little support. But I also wanted to let have some time away from the campus." Sonic explained.

"You could have just said that ya know. I would have come with you no matter what." Shadow replied.

Sonic's gaze turned to Shadow as he approached a red light. "Really?"

Shadow turned to him as well. "Yeah, you been nothing but a guardian angel to me. The least I can do is be by your side in your time of need."

Sonic's muzzle turned pink. "Guardian angel huh?" Sonic nervously chuckled.

Shadow became a little embarrassed. "W-Wait, that came out wrong!"

Sonic began to laugh as the light turned green.

"Stop laughing! You know what I mean!" Shadow exclaimed embarrassed.

"No, I get it. Don't be embarrassed, I love being your guardian angel." Sonic said.

Shadow gave up. "Whatever." As he sat with the red blush still on his face.

For the rest of the car ride, the two hedgehogs grew closer together. There feelings for each other grew without the other knowing.

The car ride finally ended and the blue mustang was parked in front of a big house with a rose garden in front of it.

"Welcome to Knothole Shadow." Sonic spoke as he unbuckled his seatbelt.

Shadow did the same. "I like the garden."

"That's my mom's. She loves that garden. You like flowers?" Sonic stated.

"Yes, especially roses. They're my favorite."

"Nice to know. You ready to meet them?"

Shadow nodded.
